H. Moser & Cie. Introduces Pioneer Retrograde Seconds: A Dynamic New Complication

H. Moser & Cie. has unveiled the Pioneer Retrograde Seconds, a timepiece that introduces a playful yet sophisticated complication to the brand’s Pioneer collection. Designed with the brand’s signature minimalist philosophy, this watch blends sporty aesthetics with innovative horology, making it an intriguing addition to the world of haute horlogerie.

A Dynamic Retrograde Seconds Complication

The Pioneer Retrograde Seconds stands out with its 30-second retrograde mechanism, prominently positioned at 6 o’clock. The retrograde hand moves forward for 30 seconds before snapping back to its starting position, creating a captivating visual effect reminiscent of measuring instruments and speedometers. This dynamic complication brings both functionality and animation to the watch, while maintaining the water resistance and robustness that the Pioneer collection is known for—up to 120 meters.

In line with H. Moser & Cie.’s minimalist approach, the brand’s logo is subtly applied in transparent lacquer on the Midnight Blue fumé dial, keeping the focus on the timekeeping elements. The retrograde mechanism features a double snail cam, which allows the seconds hand to complete its arc every 30 seconds. A rack and hairspring arrangement ensures that the hand moves precisely before rapidly returning to its starting position.

Powered by the HMC 250 Movement

At the heart of the Pioneer Retrograde Seconds is the HMC 250 automatic calibre, a robust movement developed in collaboration with Agenhor SA, a specialist in retrograde mechanisms. This automatic movement features bi-directional winding, a power reserve of at least three days, and the hallmark Straumann hairspring. The movement also boasts partially skeletonized bridges and Moser double stripes, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, offering an insight into the technical craftsmanship behind the watch.

The retrograde module, designed by Agenhor, works seamlessly with the HMC 250 calibre, adding both technical complexity and reliability. With a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and 31 jewels, the movement ensures precision and durability for the wearer.

Sporty Design with Refined Details

The Pioneer Retrograde Seconds comes in a 42.8mm steel case with a domed sapphire crystal and a see-through case back. The watch’s water resistance of up to 120 meters makes it a suitable companion for active lifestyles, while the design details—such as the faceted applique indices and Super-LumiNova filled hands—ensure readability in various conditions.

The watch is available with a variety of strap options, including hand-stitched alligator leather, rubber, textile, or a steel bracelet, allowing for a versatile aesthetic that suits both formal and casual settings.

A Watch for Connoisseurs

The Pioneer Retrograde Seconds is a true embodiment of H. Moser & Cie.’s innovative spirit and dedication to horological craftsmanship. It offers discerning collectors a timepiece that combines a fascinating complication with the brand’s characteristic elegance and simplicity.
