For more than two decades, the Breitling Avenger has been a symbol of high-flying excitement and adventure. Originally designed for jet pilots, this watch is built to withstand the most challenging conditions in the cockpit and still perform flawlessly. However, you don’t need a background in the air force to appreciate its bold aesthetics, exceptional durability, and cutting-edge features.
Prepare to embrace the all-new Avenger.
The Avenger, now updated and unstoppable, is Breitling’s response to the demands of the skies. Its redesign is centered around sleek aviation-inspired details, materials that can endure wear and tear, and the inclusion of the powerful Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 in its chronograph models.
Breitling’s association with aviation dates back to the 1930s when Willy Breitling, the third-generation founder, established the HUIT Aviation Department, dedicated to crafting precision aircraft instruments and pilot’s chronographs. This expertise in the burgeoning field of military aviation transitioned seamlessly into the era of commercial air travel and beyond, resulting in iconic timepieces like the Navitimer, AVI Co-Pilot, Aerospace, Emergency, and the Avenger. No other watch brand boasts a more impressive and enduring connection to aviation.
“The Avenger was created to stand up to the relentless conditions of a jet cockpit and to support pilots in demanding aerial maneuvers. Its redesign demanded nothing less,” says Breitling CEO Georges Kern. “This collection pairs all the performance with sophisticated modern aviation style.”
The new Avenger range is available in three formats: a 44 mm chronograph, a 44 mm automatic GMT, and a 42 mm automatic model. Each option offers a choice between a military leather strap with a folding pin buckle or a three-row stainless-steel bracelet with a micro-adjustable folding clasp. Furthermore, all these watches are water-resistant up to 300 meters and feature an easy-grip design and corrosion-resistant construction, whether you’re executing a barrel roll or not. Let’s explore these models in more detail.
BREITLING AVENGER B01 CHRONOGRAPH 44 AND NIGHT MISSION
At the heart of the new Avenger chronograph lies the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, offering an impressive power reserve of approximately 70 hours, accompanied by a five-year warranty and COSC-certified chronometer status. To reveal the intricate mechanics of the movement, the chronograph models feature an open sapphire-crystal caseback.
The core models come with a colored dial (available in blue, green, black, or sand-colored) and a rotating 60-minute bezel in stainless steel. The baton indexes on the dial draw attention to the red-tipped chrono hand. Notice the grip pattern on the crown and bezel, along with the new square pushers, designed for smooth and precise timekeeping.
For those seeking a bolder look, the Avenger Night Mission chronograph, featuring a vibrant yellow or carbon black dial, is constructed with a case and bezel entirely made of scratch-resistant ceramic. Its caseback, crown, pushers, and buckle are crafted from solid titanium, offering an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, especially noticeable on the black dial, specially made from resilient carbon fiber.
The use of carbon fiber, titanium, and steel mirrors the materials used in aircraft design, emphasizing the Avenger’s lightweight yet durable construction, much like the jets they are associated with.
BREITLING AVENGER AUTOMATIC GMT 44
Highly valued by pilots and frequent travelers, the Avenger Automatic GMT features a red GMT hand that allows for quick reading of Zulu time, thanks to a 24-hour rotating bezel. This model shares the same diameter as the chronograph but with a more compact profile. The steel-cased Avenger Automatic GMT is available with black or naval-blue dials, along with a choice of a military leather strap or a three-row stainless-steel bracelet. It is powered by the COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 32, offering a reserve of approximately 42 hours and supported by a two-year warranty.
BREITLING AVENGER AUTOMATIC 42
In a balanced 42 mm diameter, the Avenger Automatic 42 retains all the robust qualities of its larger counterparts. Constructed in steel, it is available with black, naval-blue, or camo-green dials, and you can choose either a matching military leather strap or a three-row stainless-steel bracelet. Its engine is the COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 17 automatic three-hand movement, delivering up to 38 hours of power and supported by a two-year warranty.
You can witness the Avenger in action in its recently released campaign, featured on the wrists of Switzerland’s Patrouille Suisse aerobatics team. This is where you’ll see the performance aviation watch at its best. It’s a new design that’s ready for action-packed adventures.
