Enhanced Specifications: The Evolution of a Signature Prospex Diver’s Watch
Seiko unveils the latest iteration of its iconic Prospex diver’s watch, featuring upgraded specifications that elevate performance and functionality to new heights.
Since its pioneering introduction of Japan’s first diver’s watch, Seiko has continued to innovate, garnering praise from both professionals and enthusiasts worldwide. The SPB143, introduced in 2020, quickly gained acclaim for its blend of vintage design inspired by the legendary 62MAS and modern functionality, boasting water resistance to 200m and a 70-hour power reserve.
Building upon this success, Seiko introduces a range of watches based on the SPB143 into the Prospex collection, with significant enhancements in technology, design, and construction. The new additions include black and blue dial versions, alongside a commemorative special edition featuring gold-colored accents to mark Seiko’s 100th anniversary.
Power, Water Resistance, and Legibility Take Center Stage
At the core of these new creations lies Seiko’s latest in-house movement, Caliber 6R55, boasting an extended power reserve of 72 hours – a first for the Prospex collection. Additionally, these watches achieve a remarkable water resistance of 300m, setting a new standard for non-saturation diver’s watches in the Prospex range. Improvements in design, including repositioning the date window for enhanced symmetry and maximizing Lumibrite application, ensure optimal legibility even in low-light conditions.
Compact Construction for Enhanced Comfort
Despite the performance upgrades, Seiko prioritizes wearer comfort by redesigning the watches to be more compact. With a diameter of 40mm, lug-to-lug length of 46.4mm, and thickness of 13mm, these timepieces maintain Seiko’s renowned reliability and ease of use. A stainless steel bezel with an aluminum insert contributes to a slim profile, while laser-engraved minute markings prevent wear over time. The new bracelet, featuring shorter links and a smaller clasp, conforms seamlessly to the wrist, ensuring a comfortable fit for extended wear.
Special Edition: A Tribute to Seiko’s Legacy
In celebration of Seiko’s 100th anniversary, a special edition with a charcoal-grey dial is introduced, featuring gold-colored accents that pay homage to the brand’s century-long legacy of innovation. This edition comes with an additional strap crafted using a traditional Japanese braiding technique known as Seichu, offering both strength and aesthetic appeal. Made entirely from recycled plastic bottles, the strap combines durability with sustainability, meeting the rigorous standards expected of Seiko diver’s watches.
Availability
All three variants of the enhanced Prospex diver’s watch will be available at select Seiko retail partners nationwide starting June 2024, inviting enthusiasts to experience the perfect blend of heritage, performance, and style.
