Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual Time Chronograph

Seiko Unveils Groundbreaking Astron GPS Solar Watch: The Fusion of Dual-Time Technology and Chronograph Functionality

Breaking boundaries yet again in electronic watchmaking, Seiko introduces the latest innovation to its celebrated Astron line. Building upon the success of the Astron GPS Solar introduced in 2012, which effortlessly synchronizes with the Global Positioning System (GPS) and adapts to all time zones at the push of a button, the brand launches a pioneering timepiece that integrates Dual-Time technology with a chronograph function for the first time. This milestone is commemorated through the release of the Seiko Astron GPS Solar Kintaro Hattori Limited Edition, paying homage to the 100th anniversary of Seiko and the visionary legacy of its founder, Kintaro Hattori.

A Tribute to Seiko’s Century of Innovation

Rooted in Seiko’s ethos of being “Always one step ahead of the rest,” this special edition timepiece celebrates the brand’s century-long journey of innovation since its inception in 1881. Marking the centenary of the first wristwatch bearing the “Seiko” name on its dial in 1924, 2024 stands as a testament to Seiko’s enduring commitment to excellence.

The new watch showcases a sub-dial at the 12 o’clock position, measuring elapsed time in precise increments of 1/20th of a second, a feature previously unseen in Seiko Astron models. Another sub-dial at the six o’clock position displays a secondary time zone, seamlessly transitioning into a 12-hour counter during stopwatch operation. Meanwhile, the nine o’clock sub-dial not only functions as a chronograph indicator but also provides essential information such as charging status, day of the week, and in-flight mode.

Powered by the innovative Caliber 5X83 movement, the watch automatically synchronizes with the GPS network twice a day and can be manually adjusted with a simple button push, ensuring unparalleled accuracy globally. The Caliber 5X83 introduces a streamlined process for switching between main and secondary time displays, significantly reducing transfer time compared to its predecessor, the Caliber 5X53.

Aesthetically, the limited edition timepiece boasts an all-black case and bracelet, complemented by a sunray-patterned dial and striking yellow-gold accents reminiscent of the earth as viewed from space. The two-part bezel, featuring a ceramic upper portion and a titanium frame with yellow-gold coloring, adds to the watch’s allure, evoking the shimmering beauty of a nocturnal satellite view. Ceramic components are also integrated into the bracelet links and crown tip, enhancing both durability and elegance.

Embodying the spirit of Kintaro Hattori’s vision, the case back of the limited edition bears his name alongside the iconic “S” trademark, symbolizing Seiko’s enduring legacy. Presented in a specially crafted box, the commemorative timepiece includes an extra-strength silicone strap and a symbolic “S” mark metal pin.

The limited edition Seiko Astron GPS Solar Kintaro Hattori will be available in June 2024, exclusively through select Seiko retail partners, with only 1,000 units produced.

Expanding the Astron Collection: Three Stylish Chronographs

In addition to the commemorative timepiece, Seiko introduces three sleek and sporty chronographs powered by the Caliber 5X83 movement, further enriching the main Astron collection. Featuring a distinctive two-part bezel design, these watches offer enhanced energy-charging efficiency, allowing for vibrant contrasts in color and texture between the main dial and sub-dials.

Characterized by a low center of gravity titanium case and dual-curved sapphire glass with super-clear coating, these timepieces prioritize both comfort and legibility. With the word “CHRONOGRAPH” inscribed on the bezel alongside Arabic numerals, these watches exude a dynamic presence suitable for any occasion.

The three new additions to the Astron collection will be available from July 2024, exclusively through select Seiko retail partners nationwide.
