Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has unveiled its latest addition to the robust G-SHOCK lineup: the G-5600SRF, born from a collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation, dedicated to preserving our oceans. Set to debut on May 15, 2024, this release marks the eighth collaboration between Casio and the environmental non-governmental organization, known for its global efforts in ocean conservation.
Established in California in 1984, the Surfrider Foundation boasts a network of over 250,000 supporters spanning 23 countries. Recognizing G-SHOCK’s popularity among surfers and sharing a mutual commitment to safeguarding marine ecosystems, Casio previously collaborated with Surfrider Foundation on seven models from 1995 to 2010.
The G-5600SRF stands out as a shock-resistant timepiece, featuring a bezel and band crafted from recycled resin scraps sourced from Casio’s manufacturing facilities. These scraps undergo meticulous processing, where they are finely shredded, blended into a base urethane material, and then shaped into the requisite components. The infusion of black and white flakes from the recycled material lends a distinctive and playful aesthetic to the watch’s design.
Emblazoned with the Surfrider Foundation logo on the dial and case back, and the hashtag #oceanfriendlylifestyle on the band loop, this collaboration serves as a visual call to action for ocean conservation. Beyond its eco-conscious design, the G-5600SRF offers practical functionality with its Tough Solar charging system, harnessing power from sunlight and fluorescent lamps to eliminate the need for frequent battery replacements.
Completing the environmentally conscious package, the watch comes packaged in paper packaging crafted from recycled materials, further cementing its status as a standout timepiece in the G-SHOCK-Surfrider Foundation collaboration series.
