A. Lange & Söhne awards Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este “Best of Show” winner

Continuing its partnership with the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, established since 2012, A. Lange & Söhne once again bestowed a unique piece upon the “Best of Show” victor, specially crafted for the occasion. At the awards ceremony, Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid presented the overall winner of the esteemed classic car competition with an 1815 CHRONOGRAPH in white gold, featuring a hand-engraved hinged cuvette.

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este stands as one of the most traditional and exclusive beauty contests for historic automobiles. Since 2012, A. Lange & Söhne has proudly partnered with this event, held from May 24th to 26th, 2024, on the expansive grounds of the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este overlooking Lake Como in Cernobbio, northern Italy. The pinnacle of the event is the presentation of the “Trofeo BMW Group – Best of Show,” which traditionally marks the grand finale of the Concorso d’Eleganza on Sunday evening. This year, approximately 50 of the most spectacular classic cars of our time competed across eight competition classes, vying for the attention of a distinguished jury and automobile enthusiasts alike. The ultimate victor was an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 from the year 1932.

During the celebratory award ceremony, Wilhelm Schmid presented the fortunate winner with an exclusive bespoke 1815 CHRONOGRAPH in white gold, featuring a solid pink-gold dial and a hand-engraved hinged cuvette. Through this unique timepiece, A. Lange & Söhne pays homage to the preservation and devoted care of exceptional automotive rarities while emphasizing the parallels between classic cars and the timepieces crafted by the German manufacture.

“There couldn’t be a better choice for the winning watch, since chronographs symbolize the close connection between motorsport and timekeeping,” emphasized Schmid. The 1815 CHRONOGRAPH also epitomizes the manufacture’s distinct expertise, as it is powered by one of 13 specially developed chronograph calibers. “A. Lange & Söhne’s chronograph tradition was reinvigorated 25 years ago with the DATOGRAPH. To commemorate this special anniversary, we unveiled two new timepieces this year, which were also showcased at the Concorso: the DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN in white gold with a blue dial and the DATOGRAPH PERPETUAL TOURBILLON HONEYGOLD ‘Lumen.’ Our horological masterpieces beautifully complemented the automotive marvels on display at Lake Como.”
