This energy is stored in an accumulator and powers two motors: an electrostatic motor that drives the fluid motion of the second hand and a step motor that powers the hour and minute hands.
To conserve power, the second hand automatically stops at the 12 o’clock position after five minutes of inactivity, while the timekeeping functions continue. The second hand is reactivated by simply swinging one’s arm fully up and down for 3 to 5 seconds, which powers the timepiece and resets the second hand to the correct time.
