RESERVOIR Watch Honors GIGN’s 50th Anniversary with Special Edition Timepiece

In celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIGN), RESERVOIR Watch has introduced a special edition timepiece. This watch pays tribute to the precision and resilience of the elite unit, which has been a symbol of courage and dedication since 1974.

French Innovation and Swiss Tradition

The new RESERVOIR watch features a robust 42mm case made of 316L stainless steel with brushed finishes and visible screws and bolts. The black dial, adorned with the GIGN logo, displays the years 1974 and 2024, two stars, and a French flag, celebrating GIGN’s rich heritage. The watch is equipped with a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a screw-crown designed for easy handling.

At its heart is the RSV-240 caliber, a Swiss-made self-winding mechanical movement combining retrograde minute, jumping hour, and 56-hour power reserve functions. The mechanism, visible through an open case back engraved “Edition Cinquantenaire du GIGN,” beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, ensuring precision and reliability.

Limited Series Exclusives

This edition, limited to 192 pieces, is exclusively available to GIGN members. Each watch comes in a black metal case inspired by ammunition boxes and includes an embroidered badge and a commemorative coin for the fiftieth anniversary. The watch offers two interchangeable straps: one in black leather and technical canvas fabric, and another in midnight blue NATO, both featuring stitching in the colors of the French flag.

About GIGN

Founded in 1974 in response to the 1972 Munich Olympics terrorist attack, the GIGN has since undertaken numerous high-risk operations, freeing hostages and managing crisis situations both in France and internationally. The successful intervention during the 1994 AF 8969 flight hijacking in Marseille remains a testament to their expertise and capability.

Heraldry of the Badge

The GIGN badge symbolizes the unit’s cohesion and strength. The circle represents collective strength, while the aiming reticle symbolizes precision and respect for life. The carabiner and parachute signify the unit’s airborne and crossing techniques, and the blue background reflects their underwater capabilities. The two stars denote the “second generation” GIGN, post-2007 reform.

The RESERVOIR watch is a fitting tribute to the GIGN, celebrating fifty years of bravery, precision, and resilience. For more information, visit RESERVOIR Watch.
