Perrelet Unveils Turbine “¡Viva México, cabrones!” at SIAR Summer Experience 2024

Perrelet is introducing the Turbine “¡Viva México, cabrones!” at the SIAR Summer Experience 2024, a limited edition watch designed to commemorate Mexico’s independence. This exclusive timepiece is limited to 50 pieces and highlights Perrelet’s ongoing tribute to Mexican symbols and traditions.

Continued Tribute to Mexican Heritage

Perrelet has a history of honoring Mexican heritage with previous releases such as the Turbine Mexico in 2020, the Turbine Mexican Flag and Turbine Mexican Skull in 2022, and the Turbine Carbon Mexico in 2023. This year’s launch at the SIAR Summer Experience, held from June 11 to 13 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mexico City, strengthens the brand’s relationship with the Mexican market.

Design and Symbolism

The Turbine Mexico 2024 edition features a dial animated by Perrelet’s iconic Turbine, displaying two significant national symbols: the tricolor flag with the eagle emblem and the inscription “¡Viva México, cabrones!”. This phrase, deeply rooted in Mexican culture, originated during the Mexican Revolution in 1923, attributed to Pancho Villa’s last words. It symbolizes patriotism and encouragement to fight for the homeland.

The national colors—green, white, and red—along with the inscription, trace back to the Mexican War of Independence, marking the birth of the first Mexican flag in 1821. The flag, featuring an eagle holding a snake, represents the founding of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City. The current flag design was approved in 1968.

Unique Technology

The core of the new Turbine “¡Viva México, cabrones!” is Perrelet’s patented turbine technology, introduced in 2009. Inspired by aircraft engine propulsion systems, this technology features 12 blades that rotate around a central axis with wrist movement, creating a dynamic visual effect. While purely decorative, the turbine’s complex construction and assembly showcase Perrelet’s horological expertise.

Stylistic Identity

The Turbine “¡Viva México, cabrones!” retains the design elements of the Turbine EVO, launched in 2019. It features a 41mm round case made from grade 2 titanium, blackened with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) treatment. The design includes a smooth bezel, fluted case middle, and a case back ring matching the crown, personalized with Perrelet’s logo. The dial includes white delta hands coated with luminescent material, Arabic numerals, and hour markers framed in red. The watch is protected by a sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment and is secured with a green rubber strap featuring a black DLC titanium pin buckle.

In-House Movement

The Turbine “¡Viva México, cabrones!” is powered by the in-house P-331-MH calibre, an automatic mechanical movement developed by Soprod, a division of the Festina Group. It has 25 jewels, a 42-hour power reserve, and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). The movement is certified by both COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) and Chronofiable®, ensuring reliability and precision.

Limited Availability

Only 50 pieces of the Turbine “¡Viva México, cabrones!” are available, each priced at EUR/CHF 5,180 or USD 5,450.
