30th Anniversary of the Lange 1: A. Lange & Söhne Introduces Four Limited Editions

Celebrating the enduring legacy of one of its most iconic timepieces, A. Lange & Söhne marks the 30th anniversary of the Lange 1 with four limited-edition releases. Originally introduced on October 24, 1994, the Lange 1 remains a benchmark in horological design and craftsmanship. To commemorate this milestone, the brand unveils two new models of the Lange 1 and two of the Little Lange 1, offered in distinctive combinations of platinum and gold, further accentuating its rich history.

The Four Limited Editions

Each of the four timepieces in the collection is a limited-edition model, designed to reflect A. Lange & Söhne’s dedication to craftsmanship and technical innovation. The two new editions of the Lange 1 are available in a 950 platinum case with a black onyx dial and in a 750 pink gold case with a blue 925 silver dial. The Little Lange 1 mirrors these same color combinations, each also limited in number.

The 950 platinum Lange 1 and Little Lange 1 feature a sleek black onyx dial—a first for the collection—while the 750 pink gold models showcase a radiant blue dial. All four models are limited to 300 pieces for the Lange 1 and 150 pieces for the Little Lange 1, emphasizing their exclusivity.

Design Inspired by the Golden Ratio

The unique dial layout of the Lange 1 is carefully designed using the principles of the golden ratio, providing a balanced and timeless appearance. With its characteristic off-center dial and the signature outsize date, the design remains a hallmark of the collection. The slender bezels and prominent lugs add further refinement to the timepieces, which measure 38.5mm for the Lange 1 and 36.8mm for the Little Lange 1.

The L121.1 Manufacture Caliber

Powering both the Lange 1 and the Little Lange 1 is the in-house L121.1 manufacture caliber. Introduced in 2015, this movement is designed with meticulous precision, featuring a balance with eccentric poising weights and a freely oscillating balance spring. The movement drives the instantaneously advancing outsize date, ensuring it switches precisely at midnight. The caliber also boasts a 72-hour power reserve, thanks to its twin mainspring barrels.

Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement’s artisanal finishing showcases the traditional Glashütte ribbing on the three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver. Other standout details include eight screwed gold chatons held by blued screws, contributing to the intricate beauty of the movement.

A Statement from the Manufacture

Reflecting on the anniversary, Anthony de Haas, Director of Product Development at A. Lange & Söhne, shares, “Thirty years ago, A. Lange & Söhne succeeded in designing a mechanical work of art with the Lange 1 that established new benchmarks in precision watchmaking. Developed out of the passion to do things differently, it has since been a symbol of our manufacture’s self-conception to craft timepieces that combine superb functionality with aesthetic appeal.

This sentiment echoes the continued ambition of the brand to push the boundaries of traditional watchmaking. Over the years, the Lange 1 family has expanded to include various complications such as the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar and the Lange 1 Time Zone. Looking to the future, A. Lange & Söhne remains committed to innovation and craftsmanship, striving to create new horological masterpieces.
