Christie’s The Collectibles: Upcoming Watches Online and Live Auctions

Christie’s Watches is launching its first sale at the new Asia Pacific headquarters at The Henderson in Hong Kong with the Watches Online: Featuring ‘The Collectibles’ Part 1 auction. Taking place from 11 to 24 September 2024, this event will feature 175 carefully curated vintage and modern wristwatches from top brands such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, F.P. Journe, and Audemars Piguet. The sale carries a total low estimate of HK$13.3 million (around US$1.7 million).

The Collectibles: A Single-Owner Treasure

The star of the event is the “The Collectibles”, a unique collection from a single owner. Valued at over HK$65 million, this collection includes rare vintage and modern watches. The first part of the collection, with 66 lots, will be available in the online sale, while Part 2 will be presented in a live auction on 27 October.

In addition to “The Collectibles,” the auction will include a range of other rare and valuable watches from private owners. With prices ranging from no reserve to HK$1 million, collectors and enthusiasts of all levels will have the chance to participate.

Important Watches Live Auction: More Collectibles and Rare Pieces

The live auction on 27 October will feature the second part of “The Collectibles” alongside other extraordinary timepieces. This auction promises some of the world’s most complicated and sought-after watches, offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire exclusive masterpieces.

One of the highlights is a rare Patek Philippe Ref. 1518 in pink gold. This reference is historically significant as it was the first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch produced in series. Out of the 58 pieces made, only 45 are known to exist in pink gold. This particular watch is the only known Ref. 1518 with the inscription ‘Fab. Suisse’, making it an incredibly rare find.

Another highlight is the Rolex Deep Sea Special model, a museum-quality watch designed to withstand the immense pressures of deep-sea exploration. Similar models are on permanent exhibit at renowned institutions like the Smithsonian Institution and the Deutsches Museum.

Additional Auction Highlights

The live auction will also feature remarkable pieces such as a one-of-a-kind Richard Mille RM018 with lapis lazuli wheels and a rare platinum F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance. These watches, along with other modern and neo-vintage limited editions, showcase the highest levels of craftsmanship and technical innovation.

Conclusion

Christie’s online and live auctions offer an exceptional chance to acquire rare and important watches. With the iconic “The Collectibles” collection and other remarkable pieces from top brands, these auctions are a must-see for collectors around the globe.
