Bell & Ross BR-X5 Green Lum

Emphasizing visibility as a primary objective in every Bell & Ross design, the LUM collection, introduced in 2017, draws inspiration from aeronautical instrumentation. This collection explores the potential of luminescence to provide superior luminosity and optimal readability day and night. Previous pieces utilized Super-LumiNova for numerals, indices, hands, and dials. Now, Bell & Ross takes a bold step with the BR-X5 GREEN LUM, incorporating the innovative composite material LM3D, posing the challenge of seamlessly merging innovation, photoluminescent material, and high-end design in the BR-X5 line.

Whether in a cockpit or on a diver’s wrist, achieving a display that glows in the dark for optimal readability has always been a central challenge in watchmaking instruments. Luminescent materials have evolved since the 1930s, with Super-LumiNova now dominating the field after tritium and radium were shelved due to radioactivity.

While all Bell & Ross watches ensure time visibility in the dark, the LUM pieces, introduced in 2017, specifically reference luminescence. The LUM line, beginning with the BR 03-92 HOROLUM in 2017, followed by the BR 03-92 NIGHTLUM in 2018 and the BR 03-92 FULL LUM in 2019, showcased exceptional luminescence. Subsequent models like the BR 03-92 GREY LUM, BR 03-92 Diver FULL LUM, BR V2-94 FULL LUM, and BR V2-92 FULL LUM continued to push boundaries with unique luminous effects.

In 2022, the BR-X5 GREEN LUM expands the manufacture collection, maintaining the aeronautical heritage and the iconic “round within the square” visual signature. As an advanced BR 05, the BR-X5 features the BR-CAL.323 caliber, designed by Kenissi, offering precision with a 70-hour power reserve. The multi-component case prioritizes purity, radicality, resistance, and lightness. The BR-X5 GREEN LUM further enriches the high-end line, reflecting Bell & Ross’s commitment to innovation.

This limited concept series introduces a luminescent case, a departure from the traditional application of luminescence to hands, numerals, indices, and dials. The 41mm case of the BR-X5 GREEN LUM uses a specially developed composite material, LM3D, which, combined with grade 2 micro-blasted black DLC titanium, emits a powerful green luminescence in the dark. This unique approach transforms the watch into a one-of-a-kind conceptual art object, with the entire case glowing and highlighting various dial indications in low light conditions. The BR-X5 GREEN LUM, a 500-piece limited series, marks a distinctive milestone in Bell & Ross’s exploration of luminescent innovation.
