On November 15, 2023, in Tokyo, Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced the launch of new additions to its G-SHOCK brand of shock-resistant watches. The trio of GW-B5600CD watches represents the brand’s latest collaboration with the Charles Darwin Foundation, an organization dedicated to environmental conservation in the Galápagos Islands. The Charles Darwin Foundation is an international nonprofit committed to preserving the natural environment of the Galápagos Islands. Engaging in activities such as surveying the marine and terrestrial life and ecosystems of the islands, the organization actively promotes conservation efforts. This recent collaboration, the second between G-SHOCK and the Charles Darwin Foundation since their initial partnership in 1999, introduces the new GW-B5600CD shock-resistant watches. These timepieces showcase designs incorporating silhouettes of creatures indigenous to the Galápagos Islands, set against the backdrop of their natural habitats. While based on the GW-B5600, a watch equipped with radio wave reception and Tough Solar charging capabilities, the new GW-B5600CD watches feature a bezel and band crafted from bio-based resin derived from renewable organic resources.
Each of the three watches boasts a distinct design motif on the face: the GW-B5600CD-1A2 showcases a hammerhead shark in an ocean environment, the GW-B5600CD-1A3 features a Darwin’s finch amidst the foliage of a Scalesia forest, and the GW-B5600CD-9 depicts a Galápagos giant tortoise in a rocky habitat. Silhouettes of these creatures also emerge on the LCD when the backlight is activated.
The case back is engraved with the Charles Darwin Foundation logo, and a Spanish-language statement translating to “I support Galápagos conservation” is printed on the band. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of these watches will contribute to supporting the Charles Darwin Foundation’s vital conservation initiatives. For more information, please visit Casio.com.
