On December 1, 2023, Casio Computer Co., Ltd. unveiled the latest addition to the MR-G line, the flagship series within the G-SHOCK brand known for its resilient watches. The newly introduced MRG-B5000R pays homage to the initial G-SHOCK model, embodying the brand’s historical roots, and boasts a remarkably comfortable Dura Soft band.
Grounded in the philosophy of delivering “the epitome of durability-centric timepieces,” the MR-G line stands at the zenith of the G-SHOCK brand, amalgamating cutting-edge technology and expert metalworking techniques. Originating from the iconic design of the inaugural G-SHOCK, the original MRG-B5000 made its debut in 2022. Featuring a bezel with the Multi-Guard Structure for precise polishing, the watch incorporated advanced materials like COBARION®, an exceptionally hard alloy, perfected through expert polishing craftsmanship. Endowed with such features, it quickly became a favorite as the flagship model of the G-SHOCK brand.
The new MRG-B5000R builds upon the success of the MRG-B5000, integrating a soft and comfortable Dura Soft band to provide flexible usability suitable for the premier line of the G-SHOCK brand, catering to both formal occasions and dynamic situations. The Dura Soft band exhibits robust resistance to discoloration, staining, and long-term deterioration, with titanium components insert-molded to enhance the band’s connection strength to the case. Delivering a plush feel, the band ensures a snug fit even during strenuous activities, complemented by a one-touch, 3-fold titanium clasp that adds a touch of elegance to the overall design.
The watch’s design pays tribute to the color scheme of the DW-5000C-1B, the gold-accented rendition of the initial G-SHOCK. Applying a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating to the case and a gold IP finish to the side buttons, the face incorporates gold accents. The band features textured patterns inspired by design motifs that have endured since the inception of G-SHOCK, including “SHOCK RESIST” symbols and the distinctive brick pattern. While retaining design elements from the original model, the watch seamlessly blends G-SHOCK’s signature toughness and aesthetic appeal, presenting a distinctive appearance.
