Certina DS Super PH1000M

MAKING A SPLASH ON LAND AND SEA

Certina, the Swiss watch brand, continues to demonstrate its profound affinity for oceanic depths with its latest timepiece, the DS SUPER PH1000M. Originating in 1970, the DS SUPER PH1000M made waves both above and below the water’s surface. Today, the initial model is succeeded by two variants: a limited edition of 1000 pieces featuring a vibrant orange dial and an unlimited version in classic black. These distinct wristwatches are driven by a state-of-the-art automatic calibre boasting an 80-hour power reserve and a Nivachron™ balance spring.

Undeniably possessing vintage charm, the new DS SUPER PH1000M draws inspiration from a 1970s model that set the benchmark for waterproof watches. The historical predecessor played a pivotal role in the Tektite II program, where five aquanauts lived and conducted research in a seabed diving base for up to four weeks. The contemporary duo upholds this legacy by embodying not only extreme water resistance but also the design ethos of its predecessor. The fluted and unidirectional bezel, adorned with a black aluminum ring, remains as captivating now as it was in the past.

Confidently standing out from the crowd, the DS SUPER PH1000M features a stainless steel case with a gracefully curved barrel shape measuring 43.5 mm x 42 mm. At 9 o’clock, a helium outlet valve caters to professional dives. The fluted, raised design of the rotating bezel not only enhances usability but also provides the watch with visual depth. Wide indices and hands with Super-LumiNova® coating ensure optimal readability in low-light conditions. The orange-dial version is limited to 1000 pieces, while the black version with orange accents is a standard offering in the collection. Both models come with the option of a black rubber strap or a textile strap made of #tide ocean material®.

As a maritime timepiece designed for extreme depths, the DS SUPER PH1000M boasts an impressive water resistance of 100 bar (1000 meters). Its mechanical Powermatic 80 calibre ensures precise timekeeping, featuring automatic winding, an 80-hour power reserve, and a magnetic field-resistant Nivachron™ balance spring—making this ambitious wristwatch ready for any adventure, whether on land or underwater.

The DS SUPER PH1000M not only serves as a reliable companion but also makes a bold style statement. It comes in special premium packaging and will be available at official CERTINA retailers worldwide starting November 2023.
