Eco-Drive watches for everyone, everywhere

The radiant sun’s light graciously bathes the entire world, indifferent to our geographical locations. This light, abundantly available to all, serves as the driving force behind CITIZEN’s Eco-Drive watches, beautifully embodying the company’s corporate philosophy: “Loved by citizens, working for citizens.”

Back in the early 1970s, during a global energy crisis, CITIZEN’s engineers turned their gaze towards sunlight as an innovative, pollution-free, and sustainable energy source. This marked the birth of Eco-Drive, rooted in CITIZEN’s unwavering commitment to crafting environmentally-friendly timepieces that eliminate the need for frequent battery replacements. The world witnessed the debut of the first-ever light-powered analog watch in 1976. Since that groundbreaking moment, CITIZEN has continually led the charge in advancing light-powered watch technologies, evolving them to the extent where even minimal amounts of light can be harnessed and converted into electricity to energize Eco-Drive watches. In addition to technological advancements, CITIZEN has diligently improved the functionality and aesthetics of each subsequent Eco-Drive model. As a result, Eco-Drive watches now grace the wrists of individuals in 140 countries and regions worldwide.

Our world is undergoing rapid transformations, grappling with various environmental challenges such as climate change and natural disasters. Concurrently, our values and perspectives are growing increasingly diverse. CITIZEN introduces these new Eco-Drive 365 models into its global lineup to underscore the appeal of clean energy-powered Eco-Drive watches to anyone aspiring to contribute to a brighter and more sustainable future.

Uniquely beautiful, innovative new designs

The Cal. E365 movement housed within these Eco-Drive 365 models further enhances the merits of CITIZEN’s exclusive Eco-Drive technology – notably low power consumption and extended operational durations – enabling each timepiece to run continuously for 365 days on a single charge. This movement maintains the standard 27 mm diameter while achieving heightened power generation efficiency. The precision of the pulses employed to drive the watch hands has also been refined, opening doors to innovative design possibilities.

The watch designs draw inspiration from a quartz model introduced by CITIZEN in 1973, known for its striking and original aesthetics. This iconic design, spanning half a century, was meticulously studied, adapted, and rejuvenated with a fresh interpretation. The distinct contours of the new case incorporate CITIZEN’s expertise in stainless steel processing and polishing. Moreover, the dial, which serves as the powerhouse for the watch, has been updated using cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. In the case of the limited-edition model, lab-grown rubies make a reminiscent nod to the indices of the original 1973 design. The leather strap is crafted by an LWG-certified tannery. After half a century, CITIZEN’s iconic 1973 quartz model is reborn as an Eco-Drive watch, reflecting newfound potential and evolutionary possibilities for timepieces in this new era.

Regular Models

The BN1015-52E presents a contemporary, sleek appearance characterized by an all-black color scheme, while the BN1014-55E showcases the distinct silver tones associated with stainless steel.

These unique models boast stainless steel cases that harmoniously blend clean, straight lines, and flat surfaces, complemented by subtle ridgelines positioned at 12 and 6 o’clock, seamlessly integrated with the bracelet’s contours.

The creation of the luminous dial, responsible for powering the watch, employed cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. A harmonious blend of four varieties of sparkling accents, each varying in color and size, was combined to craft a surface reminiscent of an infinite starry sky and the inherent beauty of our planet. The metallic indices are strategically positioned on the outer ring, enhancing the dial’s sense of depth and expansiveness. The case’s vertical lines are accentuated by the stylish facets on either side, complementing the sleek brass hands.

Limited-edition Model

The visually striking ridges of the distinctive case, the striking ruby-red indices on the captivating dial, and the leather strap pay homage to the unique aesthetics of the CITIZEN Quartz EFA, which made its debut in 1973. The indices are elegantly embellished with four CRESCENT VERT lab-grown rubies. Each gemstone boasts exceptional purity, remarkable transparency, and a vibrant red hue with a subtle purplish undertone, mirroring the finest natural rubies. The strap is fashioned from LWG-certified leather.

After a span of 50 years, CITIZEN’s iconic 1973 quartz model has undergone a renaissance as an Eco-Drive watch, embracing fresh potential and evolutionary prospects for timepieces in this new era.
