DOXA Unveils Special Edition SUB 300T Sharkhunter in Tribute to Clive Cussler

Today, DOXA proudly announced the release of the special edition ‘SUB 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler’ watch, celebrating the 93rd birthday of the legendary author, maritime explorer, and NUMA founder Clive Cussler. This launch marks the second chapter in DOXA’s homage to the renowned American novelist who played a significant role in popularizing SUB diving watches worldwide. The watch is now available for purchase on DOXA’s official website.

Clive Cussler, born on July 15, 1931, would have celebrated his 93rd birthday today. The prolific writer, who authored over 85 books and sold more than 100 million copies globally, was known for his deep connection to adventure, both in his novels and his real-life exploits. His famous character, Dirk Pitt, often sported the iconic orange dial of the SUB watch, reflecting Cussler’s own affinity for the brand.

Cussler’s passion for exploration was not confined to the pages of his books. He founded the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) in 1979, dedicating himself to the discovery and preservation of historic shipwrecks. The special edition SUB 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler watch unveiled today honors his adventurous spirit.

Crafted from stainless steel with an aged patina, reminiscent of last year’s model introduced in New York, this edition features a black Sharkhunter dial. It displays hours, minutes, seconds, and date, accentuated by striking white hands and indexes. The compass rose on the dial, marking the four cardinal points, serves as a poignant reminder of Cussler’s explorations and the mysteries waiting beneath the waves.

The watch’s caseback is engraved with the names of shipwrecks and historical artifacts discovered or explored by NUMA, creating a tangible link to maritime history. The dial is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, and all diving-related displays feature Super-LumiNova® luminescent coating for optimal readability in low visibility conditions.

Powered by a Swiss automatic movement with exclusive DOXA decorations, the watch operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4.0 Hz) and offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. It includes a date window at 3 o’clock and a screw-down crown, ensuring water resistance up to 300 meters (~984 feet).

The watch comes with two strap options: the iconic ‘beads of rice’ metal bracelet in aged steel and a sportier, lighter black FKM rubber strap. Both feature a folding clasp with a wetsuit extension. Each piece is discreetly engraved with its exclusive serial number, limited to 93 watches, marking its uniqueness.

A portion of the sales from this special edition will be donated to NUMA, supporting their ongoing mission to uncover and preserve maritime history.

Dirk Cussler, author and son of Clive Cussler, expressed his gratitude, saying, “The relationship between DOXA and my father Clive Cussler, as well as with our family today, has always been much more than just a business partnership. It’s a purposeful and enduring collaboration that began in my father’s novels and continues today for the benefit of NUMA, which he founded 45 years ago. I’m thrilled to celebrate my father’s memory with this SUB 300T Sharkhunter Special Edition DOXA watch released on his 93rd birthday.”

Jan Edöcs, CEO of DOXA, added, “In celebrating Clive Cussler’s 93rd birthday, we pay tribute not only to his talent as a writer but also to the close ties forged between the DOXA team and the Cussler family. Clive Cussler’s legacy continues to inspire us and is just as much a part of the brand story we continue to write. I wish to thank Dirk Cussler and his family for the close relationship we continue to enjoy with DOXA.

The new SUB 300T Sharkhunter Clive Cussler model is already available for purchase on the official DOXA Watches e-commerce platform.
