Edox Releases the Skydiver Chronograph with a Military-Inspired Design

Three Edox Skydiver Chronograph watches on a leather background

On September 5, 2024, Edox introduced the Skydiver Chronograph, a revival of its classic military watch collection. Combining functionality with visibility, the two-counter chronograph is now available via the Edox online store, offering both collectors and enthusiasts a refined take on military timepieces.

Skydiver Chronograph: A Nod to Military Heritage

In 1969, Edox was commissioned by the Swiss military to develop a robust and high-performance watch that could withstand the harshest environments—land, sea, or air. Decades later, in 2019, Edox rediscovered the design sketches from this secret project in their archives and used the opportunity to revive the Skydiver collection. Today’s Skydiver Chronograph merges the original design with modern technology, offering a contemporary reinterpretation that stays true to its rugged roots.

The chronograph is available in three variations:

  1. 10116-3-BUIDN – Blue dial.
  2. 10116-3-GRIDN – Gray dial.
  3. 10116-3-VIDN – Green dial.

Each model is a limited edition of 1,000 pieces.

Key Features

Two-Counter Chronograph
In contrast to traditional chronographs with three subdials, the Skydiver Chronograph eliminates the 12-hour counter, simplifying the design with two subdials: a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The date is symmetrically positioned at 6 o’clock. This layout enhances legibility, a feature inherited from the watch’s military origins.

Domed Sapphire Crystal
The Skydiver Chronograph is fitted with a high-durability domed sapphire crystal, reminiscent of the vintage aesthetics of the original model. Modern improvements include a screw-down case back with the Edox logo and a parachute motif, paying homage to the watch’s military roots.

Telemeter Scale The bezel ring is equipped with a telemeter scale, a military-inspired feature that allows the wearer to measure distance based on the difference between the speed of light and sound. This scale is a nod to the functionality of military watches used in the past for calculating the distance to enemy artillery.

Versatility and Practicality

Accompanying the Skydiver Chronograph is a vintage leather strap and a stainless-steel bracelet, providing versatility depending on the occasion or preference. The package includes a travel pouch, making it easy to transport and store the timepiece during outdoor adventures.

Durability and Water Resistance

True to Edox’s reputation as “The Water Champion,” the Skydiver Chronograph is equipped with a screw-down crown and robust case construction, offering 30ATM (300m) water resistance. This ensures the watch is suitable for both diving and daily wear, continuing Edox’s long-standing tradition of producing highly functional and durable watches.
