Ace Jewelers x ELKA Watch Co. D-Series Essence

Ace Jewelers and Elka Watch have unveiled the D-Series Essence wristwatch, a limited edition of 25 pieces featuring a dial stripped of any markings, except for the Elka logo.

Following the success of the 2023 Diversity Series, which explored various numeric scripts, the D-Series Essence focuses on simplicity. The absence of numerals on the dial emphasizes the clear-cut lines of the case and the dramatic dome of the crystal, showcasing a minimalist design.

The watch, introduced on February 16th, 2024, reflects a collaboration between Ace Jewelers and Elka Watch, combining the vision of Hakim El Kadiri with the design expertise of Ace Jewelers. The deep blue dial and stainless steel case create a commanding presence, offering a blend of tranquility and allure.

Alon Ben Joseph of Ace Jewelers explains: “From the moment I saw Hakim’s vision for the new ELKA Watches I fell in love with the case design. The lines and the dome of the glass is so beautiful, that I immediately proposed Hakim to create a collab where we take all printing off the dial besides the logo. Hakim is such a good friend and true watchmaker; a man of deeds & not just words, he did not reply for several weeks and then suddenly sent me a package without prior notice. In that shipment was a prototype for this watch. It was love at first sight. I am not only extremely honoured and proud to be able to be friends with Hakim, but to work with him. I hope the watch collecting community will enjoy our newest watch design as much as they the first series.”

Hakim El Kadiri sees the absence of numerals as a philosophical extension of the Diversity Series, representing a universal comprehension of time. The blue dial and metallic hands become the focal points, guiding the wearer on their journey through time: “With the Diversity Series, we paid homage to different cultures & languages around the globe. But now, we have gone beyond words, beyond languages. A timepiece with no numerals on it, creating a sense of integration and universal comprehension. The blue dial draws you in and the metallic hands show you the way, those two components being all that’s needed for your journey through time. Time doesn’t belong to anyone, and yet, no matter where we come from, we all understand it. This new watch reflects that feeling, a universal comprehension.”

Despite time belonging to no one, 25 collectors worldwide will have the opportunity to own this unique timepiece, born out of a friendship and shared vision between two individuals with different mother tongues.

Elka Watch Company, founded by Hakim El Kadiri, draws inspiration from the products and aesthetics of the 1960s. The brand’s name, ElKa, is a nod to El Kadiri’s childhood nickname. Research revealed a historical connection to a watch brand named Elka, dating back to 1913, adding a touch of heritage to the modern Elka Watch Company.

Ace Jewelers, owned by the Ben Joseph family, operates a luxurious boutique and an international eBoutique in Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter.
