Fears Brunswick Midas II

The Return of Elegance: The Brunswick Midas II

Fears Watch Company has reintroduced a notable piece to its core collection: the Brunswick Midas II. This updated timepiece continues the legacy of its predecessor, the original Brunswick Midas, which was available from 2018 to 2021.

A Blend of Gold and Craftsmanship

The Brunswick Midas II features a 22ct yellow gold-plated case and a frosted 18ct yellow gold champagne dial. This gold-on-gold aesthetic is inspired by a 1973 watch from the Fears Archive, merging historical design with modern luxury. Limited in production, the Midas II comes with two straps, allowing wearers to switch between a classic 1970s look and a contemporary style.

Specifications:

  • Case: 38 mm stainless steel, brushed and polished, 20mm lug width
  • Case Finish: 22ct Yellow Gold-Plated
  • Dial: Champagne color, with black printing and hand-applied numerals
  • Strap: Fears Blue barenia calf leather and Chalk Blue Alcantara®, both handmade
  • Movement: ETA 7001, time-only, manual winding
  • Water Resistance: 100 meters (10 ATM)

Detailed Case Design

The Brunswick Midas II’s 38mm cushion-shaped case is crafted with precision, featuring no flat surfaces and a gentle sweep on the solid case back. Machined from 316L stainless steel, the case is polished to a depth that highlights both the sophistication of the machinery and the operator’s skill. The gold plating is applied by one of the UK’s leading specialists, the same experts responsible for plating the prototype London 2012 Olympic Torch.

Crown Design

Manually wound each day using a bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding crown, the Brunswick Midas II features the Fears Cypher and fine grooves that catch the light. The crown’s design enhances functionality and complements the watch’s overall look.

Caseback Options

Owners can choose between an open exhibition caseback, offering an unobstructed view of the finely decorated movement, or a closed caseback, ideal for custom engravings. True to tradition, while the case is gold-plated, the caseback remains in un-plated stainless steel with a spun finish.

Dial Features

The hand-finished champagne dial, inspired by the color of sparkling wine, is layered with 18ct yellow gold, creating a warm tone that matches the case. Manufactured in Germany, the dial features a glass bead-blasted finish for a frosted appearance, complemented by concentric circle finishing on the sunken sub-seconds at 6 o’clock. The numerals, diamond polished and coated in Black Gold, turn from warm silver to brown-black with the flick of a wrist, reflecting the custom ‘Edwin’ typeface designed for Fears.

Watch Hands

The watch’s ‘Fears’-shaped hands, made in Germany and finished in blue using physical vapor deposition, change color from almost black to electric blue in the light. This dynamic element adds a modern touch to the design.

Swiss Movement

At the heart of the Brunswick Midas II is the Swiss-made, manual winding ETA 7001 movement, first designed in the 1970s. Known for its reliability, this movement features blued screws and Côtes de Genève striping, with bridges plated in precious Rhodium.

Strap Options

The Brunswick Midas II comes with two straps: a Fears Blue strap handcrafted from premium Barenia leather for a classic look, and a Chalk Blue strap handcrafted from Alcantara® for a modern touch. Both straps feature quick-release spring bars for easy changing without tools and are finished with a gold-plated edition of Fears’ new bespoke pin buckle.

Personalization and Packaging

Each watch is individually numbered, engraved discreetly on the case. Presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash stained in Fears Blue, the packaging reflects the company’s heritage. The interior is lined in genuine cream suede, and the box is secured by a polished chrome push button.

Fears also offers an engraving service, allowing owners to personalize their watch with initials, dates, or special verses, adding a unique touch to this timepiece.

The Brunswick Midas II combines traditional design with modern craftsmanship, making it a significant addition to the Fears core collection. With its blend of historical elegance and contemporary features, this limited edition piece appeals to enthusiasts of fine watchmaking.
