Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick

Hanhart Launches the 417 ES Moby Dick: A Vintage Chronograph Revived for Modern Adventures

In a remarkable revival of a collector’s item, Hanhart introduces the 417 ES Moby Dick, a tribute to its historical model that served as a chronograph for officers and medical professionals over 60 years ago. The contemporary rendition combines the classic design of yesteryear with state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques, resulting in a robust chronograph with a rich history, ready for both everyday life and adventurous pursuits.

Tradition in the Detail

The Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick boasts a meticulously crafted design, featuring a sharply drawn and highly polished bevel marking the transition from satin-finished horns to the flanks. A distinctive fluted bezel, a characteristic Hanhart style feature, rotates continuously in both directions, with its position marker matching the color of the dial. The details on the dial, including the bi-compax layout and lettering, pay homage to the historical model from the 1950s.

Hand-Wound Caliber for Authenticity

Staying true to its historical counterpart, the 417 ES Moby Dick houses a hand-wound caliber. While the original 417 faced limitations outside the cockpit due to its small water resistance, the new Moby Dick can now withstand depths up to 10 bar, making it suitable for various environments.

Reliable Performance

Behind the screw-down stainless steel case back, the reliable hand-wound SW510 caliber ensures not only a visually appealing design but also precise functionality. In addition to the stop-seconds function, the caliber provides a power reserve of at least 48 hours when fully wound.

Case Back and Thermally Blued Hands

The intentionally simple screw-down case back is adorned with the historical Hanhart logo and an engraved serial number. The thermally blued hands of the 417 ES Moby Dick create a captivating effect, with the color changing fascinatingly depending on the lighting conditions.

Historic Predecessor and Contemporary Comfort

Originally designed to combine robustness, reliability, and readability, the historical 417, known as the Moby Dick, is now a coveted vintage chronograph among collectors. Despite the heavily domed sapphire crystal, the contemporary 417 ES Moby Dick maintains a slim height of just 13.3 mm, ensuring a present but not disproportionate appearance on the wrist.

Super-LumiNova for Enhanced Visibility

To enhance visibility in various lighting conditions, the numerals of the 417 ES Moby Dick are coated with Super-LumiNova® Light Old Radium GL.

The launch of the Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick signifies a seamless fusion of timeless design and modern craftsmanship, appealing to both collectors and enthusiasts alike. This vintage-inspired chronograph invites wearers to embark on new adventures while carrying a piece of history on their wrists.
