Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad 2024: A Showdown of Skill and Precision in the Swiss Alps

The 27th edition of the Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad took place from August 23rd to 25th, 2024, in the breathtaking setting of the Bernese Alps. Known as Europe’s highest altitude polo tournament, this prestigious event was held at Gstaad-Saanenland airport, located at an altitude of 1000 meters. Players from around the globe gathered to compete in this event, blending the elegance of the sport with the striking backdrop of the Swiss mountains.

A Historic Venue and a Time-Honored Tradition

Polo, often referred to as the “king of games and game of kings,” traces its origins back nearly 3000 years to Asia. This tournament, held in a specially prepared polo field or cancha, saw four teams of international players, including the first female participant among the traditionally male-dominated rosters, vying for victory. The tournament structure consisted of three rounds: a qualifying round on Thursday, semi-finals on Saturday, and the grand final on Sunday. Each match was divided into four periods, known as chukkers, with each lasting seven minutes, all meticulously timed by Hublot, the official timekeeper and long-standing partner of the event since 2008.

The Winning Team and Their Prize

The tournament concluded with the Kielder team claiming victory. The team members, Max Charlton, Nacho Gonzales, Philipp Mueller, and Jaime Robert, were each awarded a Hublot Big Bang Original Steel Ceramic watch. These watches, engraved with “Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad Winner,” feature the MHUB4100 chronograph movement, a self-winding Manufacture calibre offering a 42-hour power reserve.

A Gathering of Elegance and Tradition

The event also attracted notable personalities, including Hublot brand ambassadors and friends. Among them was Swiss sprint champion Mujinga Kambundji, who joined the tradition of spectators replacing the divots in the field between chukkers. This ritual, a hallmark of polo matches, brought together both the elegance of the sport and the scenic beauty of the Alpine setting.
