Hublot and Depeche Mode Unveil Limited Edition Watch in Tribute to Memento Mori Album and Conservation Collective
In a harmonious blend of music, time, and philanthropy, luxury Swiss watchmaker Hublot and iconic British band Depeche Mode have unveiled their latest collaboration, the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode. This exclusive timepiece not only pays homage to the band’s latest album, Memento Mori, but also supports the global charity Conservation Collective.
The Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode encapsulates the essence of the band’s philosophy, urging individuals to live fully in the present and contemplate the value of time. The design features a striking skull motif adorned with an hourglass, symbolizing the transient nature of life. This collaboration marks the continuation of a partnership that began fourteen years ago, aiming to raise awareness and funds for various environmental and humanitarian causes.
Since the inception of their collaboration, Hublot and Depeche Mode have raised an impressive USD $2.3 million for charitable causes, supporting organizations such as the Teenage Cancer Trust and charity:water. The latest initiative focuses on Conservation Collective, a global charity uniting regional philanthropic foundations to protect and restore natural environments.
Depeche Mode, with over 100 million albums sold, announced their comeback in March 2023 with the release of Memento Mori and a worldwide concert tour. Hublot is actively contributing to this revival, aiding in fundraising efforts for Conservation Collective. The collaboration’s first round of projects, launched in 2023, supported seven impactful initiatives across seven countries, addressing plastic pollution at the grassroots level.
The limited-edition Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode was unveiled in Berlin, marking the band and Hublot’s second joint event in the German capital. The timepiece boasts Hublot’s signature tonneau shape, featuring an All Black aesthetic. The dial showcases the skull motif and hourglass, with small black ceramic spheres that symbolically move as the wrist is in motion, embodying the concept of Memento Mori.
The case, measuring 42 mm, is crafted from sand-blasted and polished black ceramic, housing a self-winding HUB1710_SD calibre movement with a 50-hour power reserve. The watch comes with two interchangeable straps – one made from recycled materials and Velcro in line with Conservation Collective’s initiatives, and the other in black rubber with a black titanium folding clasp, creating a distinctive ‘rock’ vibe.
Limited to 100 pieces, each watch comes in a special box with a unique surprise – a 10” vinyl single of Depeche Mode’s “Wagging Tongue,” produced using green energy and recycled PVC, exclusively available as part of this package.
In parallel to this collaboration, Conservation Collective, founded by Ben Goldsmith in 2020, continues to open new channels of philanthropic funding to enhance the impact of local environmental initiatives. The organization’s successful formula involves building clubs of donors linked to places they are passionate about, supporting local environmental foundations, and unlocking funding for effective grassroots projects globally. With millions already raised, Conservation Collective aims to amplify environmental philanthropy and foster positive change in preserving biodiversity and combating climate change.
