Hublot has launched the Spirit of Big Bang SORAI 2024 (reference 642.CI.1180.RX.SOA24), a limited-edition timepiece created to support global rhino conservation efforts. Limited to only 30 pieces, this release marks the fourth collaboration between Hublot and Save Our Rhino Africa and India (SORAI), a conservation organization founded by former cricketer and Hublot ambassador Kevin Pietersen. Proceeds from each watch sold will go directly to SORAI’s vital work in protecting rhinos from extinction.

The Spirit of Big Bang: A Design Inspired by Nature

Crafted in microblasted and polished grey ceramic, the Spirit of Big Bang SORAI 2024 reflects the rugged texture of a rhino’s skin. The 42mm tonneau-shaped case is powered by Hublot’s HUB6020 Manufacture caliber, a manual-winding skeletonized tourbillon movement with a five-day power reserve. The skeletonized dial reveals the intricacy of the movement, visible through the sapphire crystal. The grey fabric strap complements the overall design, while an additional black rubber strap with grey and beige camouflage patterns offers versatility for any occasion.

A Timepiece with a Purpose

This watch is powered by the HUB6020 Manufacture caliber, a manual-winding skeletonized tourbillon movement that boasts an impressive five-day power reserve. The dial’s sapphire crystal allows a clear view of the intricate movement, with the time display positioned at 3 o’clock and the power reserve indicator between 8 and 9 o’clock.

The Spirit of Big Bang SORAI represents more than just exceptional watchmaking—it is a symbol of Hublot’s commitment to wildlife conservation. As the rhino population continues to face the twin threats of poaching and habitat loss, initiatives like SORAI’s are crucial in protecting these keystone species. Despite the challenges, SORAI’s work has contributed to notable successes, including the increase in black rhino populations over the past 20 years.

Kevin Pietersen on the Collaboration

Kevin Pietersen, the founder of SORAI, shared his thoughts on the partnership with Hublot:
“First of all, I want to thank Hublot for continuing to support SORAI and our mission to conserve and protect the world’s rhino population. It really does make a difference. The challenge wildlife conservation teams face on the ground is sadly still hugely challenging and often incredibly dangerous… Donations from sales of these beautiful watches make a tangible difference to combating poaching, developing and implementing new technologies, and raising awareness of the threat to this magnificent animal.”
