IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Schaffhausen, December 19, 2023: IWC Schaffhausen has collaborated with Warner Bros. Pictures for the upcoming film “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” to unveil the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month. This distinctive diver’s watch draws inspiration from the red and blue glowing prop watches provided by the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer for the film’s production. Limited to 25 pieces each, the timepieces feature impressive 49-millimeter Ceratanium® cases, black dials, and black rubber straps. One version showcases red Super-LumiNova® on the dial, hands, and inner rotating bezel, while the other features blue. The technical highlights include a perpetual calendar with digital date and month displays, along with a chronograph function. The sapphire crystal back reveals the IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber with blackened components.

Audiences anticipating the release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ action adventure “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (international release on December 20, North America on December 22) can expect to witness the finest engineering from Schaffhausen in the underwater realm. IWC’s experimental division XPL, known for cutting-edge developments in advanced materials and g-protection, has equipped the film’s villains, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Dr. Stephen Shin (Randall Park), with prop watches glowing in red or blue. These prototypes have inspired two striking limited editions in IWC’s Aquatimer collection.

The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is offered in two versions, both featuring black dials and hands. The first version (Ref. IW379405), inspired by the glow colors of the movie prop watches, incorporates red Super-LumiNova® on the dial, hands, and inner rotating bezel indicating dive time. The second version features blue (Ref. IW379406). Super-LumiNova® is a high-tech ceramic compound with luminous pigments, behaving like a light storage battery, emitting visible light in the dark or underwater. Both editions boast cases, case back rings, crowns, and pushers made of IWC’s patented Ceratanium®.

Ceratanium® combines the lightness of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic, achieved through a special titanium alloy forged to IWC’s specifications. The material is machined from bars, finished by hand, and subjected to high-temperature firing in a kiln to obtain ceramic-like properties and color.

The watches’ primary feature is the perpetual calendar with digital displays, showcasing date and month on rotating discs for easy readability. The IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber powers the calendar complication and includes a chronograph function, displaying stopped hours and minutes in a totalizer at 12 o’clock. The double pawl winding system efficiently builds a power reserve of 68 hours. The blackened rotor can be admired through the transparent sapphire glass case back.

The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month incorporates IWC’s SafeDive system for setting the dive time with an external/internal rotating bezel, enhancing legibility and ease of use for divers. The system prevents unintentional changes in dive time, as the outer bezel can only move counterclockwise. The watch, like all Aquatimer models, features the IWC bracelet quick-change system for easy strap exchange.

Precision meets storytelling in the collaboration between IWC and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” where characters Black Manta and Dr. Stephen Shin wear underwater watches glowing in red and blue. The collaboration underscores the meticulous attention to detail in both watchmaking and cinematography.

The “Behind the Scenes” video is available on YouTube.

The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is exclusively available through selected IWC boutiques and is eligible for registration under the My IWC care program, offering a 6-year extension to the standard 2-year International Limited Warranty, accompanied by the My IWC Passport digital watch certificate.
