IWC Schaffhausen unveils its latest additions to the Portugieser Chronograph lineup at Watches and Wonders Geneva, introducing three captivating dial variations: Horizon Blue, Obsidian, and Dune. Inspired by different times of the day and night, each dial color encapsulates a unique atmosphere, further enhancing the allure of this iconic timepiece collection.
The first variant showcases a mesmerizing Horizon Blue dial, housed in an 18-carat white gold case and paired with a stylish blue calfskin strap. Meanwhile, the second iteration boasts an elegant Obsidian dial, encased in 18-carat 5N gold, and adorned with a luxurious black alligator leather strap. Lastly, the third rendition features a sophisticated Dune colored dial, presented in a stainless steel case, and complemented by a black alligator leather strap.
Driving these exceptional timepieces is the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre, a robust mechanical chronograph movement renowned for its reliability and longevity. The column-wheel control ensures precise functionality, with a distinct tactile feedback when operating the buttons. This movement seamlessly integrates with the basic mechanism, maintaining accurate timekeeping even during rigorous use.
A highlight of the new Portugieser Chronograph series is the meticulously crafted dials. Starting with brass bases, each dial undergoes a meticulous process, including sunburst finishing, application of transparent lacquer layers, and precise milling of the totalisers. The result is a stunning three-dimensional effect, further accentuated by individually mounted appliques. This intricate manufacturing process involves over 60 steps, showcasing IWC’s commitment to excellence.
In terms of design, the Portugieser Chronograph exhibits the brand’s signature vertical arrangement of subdials, with stopped minutes positioned at 12 o’clock for enhanced readability. The inner flange, printed with a quarter-second scale, enables precise time readings, while the lacquered finish adds depth and sophistication to the dial.
Each variant of the Portugieser Chronograph exudes its own unique charm, from the serene Horizon Blue reminiscent of a sun-soaked afternoon to the elegant Obsidian capturing the essence of the night sky. With its blend of timeless design and innovative craftsmanship, the latest additions to the Portugieser family reaffirm IWC Schaffhausen’s position as a leader in luxury watchmaking.
