In celebration of the auspicious Year of the Dragon, IWC Schaffhausen unveils a limited edition of the Portugieser Chronograph. The timeless and sophisticated Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon boasts a 41-millimeter stainless steel case, a captivating burgundy dial, and striking gold-plated hands and appliques. Limited to just 1000 pieces, this watch captivates with its rotor fashioned in the likeness of a majestic dragon, visible through the transparent sapphire glass case back.
Embracing tradition, IWC Schaffhausen honors the Lunar New Year with this exclusive timepiece. February 10, 2024, marks the commencement of the Year of the Wood Dragon, a rare occurrence in the Chinese calendar, repeating only once every 60 years. Individuals born under the dragon sign are celebrated for their energy, strength, confidence, intelligence, and generosity. Known for initiating significant endeavors and ensuring their success, the Year of the Dragon promises good fortune, prosperity, and economic success.
The Portugieser Chronograph, a dynamic and sporty addition to IWC Schaffhausen’s esteemed Portugieser collection since 1998, perfectly embodies the spirit of the Year of the Dragon. With its vertically arranged counters and quarter-seconds precision scale, it has become one of the most sought-after designs in the collection. Peter Lao, Managing Director of IWC Schaffhausen China, remarks, “We are convinced it is a fitting model to welcome the Year of the Dragon.”
Featuring a 41-millimeter stainless steel case, a rich burgundy dial, and gold-plated hands and appliques, the Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon exudes elegance. Burgundy, representing the vibrant color of fire, is traditionally used in China to usher in the Lunar New Year, symbolizing longevity and luck. Powering the chronograph is the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre, a robust and precise mechanical chronograph movement with a classic column-wheel design. The transparent sapphire case back unveils a captivating detail: the gold-plated rotor of the automatic winding system fashioned as a beautifully detailed dragon. The case back ring bears an engraving of “2024 YEAR OF THE DRAGON.” Additionally, the timepiece comes with two straps – a black calfskin strap and a burgundy rubber strap – allowing the wearer to switch between two distinct looks, secured by a butterfly clasp for optimum comfort.
Limited to just 1000 pieces, the Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon is available immediately through IWC boutiques, authorized retail partners, or online at IWC.com. Furthermore, this exceptional timepiece qualifies for registration under the My IWC care program, extending the standard 2-year International Limited Warranty by an additional 6 years.
