Konstantin Chaykin, the renowned watchmaker celebrated for his imaginative Wristmons collection, has unveiled a new character that is set to enchant watch enthusiasts around the globe. The Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ Limited Edition, with only 38 pieces available, is now exclusively at WEST WOOD TIME in Beijing.
A Fresh Take on a Classic Design
The Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ builds on the success of the original Joker with a striking new feature: a skeletonized dial that reveals the intricate Joker-indication module. Crafted using traditional haute horlogerie techniques, this 42mm stainless steel timepiece retains the iconic Five of a Kind bezel design, symbolizing luck in poker.
A Fusion of Art and Engineering
One of the most captivating features of the Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ is its exhibition caseback, showcasing a custom self-winding rotor designed to resemble the sun. This design is inspired by the poetic imagery of sun rays streaming through bamboo curtains, enhancing both the watch’s lightness and its visual appeal.
“The main idea was to skeletonize the dial of the original Joker watch. I think I have mastered this task because the character of the Wristmon has changed dramatically. The overall structure of the dial has remained the same, yet it’s a new face!” Chaykin remarked.
An Evolving Artistic Vision
The Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ is more than just another timepiece; it continues Chaykin’s ambitious Wristmons project, which began in 2017 with the original Joker’s release at the Basel fair. This initial launch quickly sold out and earned international acclaim. Rather than producing variations of the same design, Chaykin focused on creating entirely new characters, each with unique complications.
Over the past seven years, this approach has produced a diverse collection of around forty Wristmons, including the fantastical Martian Tourbillon and the complex Stargazer watch. Each new release showcases Chaykin’s creativity and innovation in modern watch design.
A Unique Addition to the Wristmons Collection
The Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ was inspired by Chaykin’s desire to experiment with new designs and complications. Created specifically for the Chinese market, this model draws inspiration from Chinese poetry and the symbolic connection of different cultures.
“I wanted to weave into this theme the idea of connecting the different cultures of our small, fragile planet. This is how the sonorous name Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ came about, which sounds like a ray of sunshine – let there be light!” Chaykin explained.
Combining Technical Excellence with Artistic Flair
While the Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ maintains the core technical characteristics of the original Joker, including the automatic caliber K.07-0 based on the reliable Swiss-made Eta 2824-2, it introduces several notable enhancements. The skeletonized dial allows owners to view the proprietary Joker-indication module from the dial side, elevating the watch to a new level of horological artistry.
Additionally, the Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ features an exhibition caseback, a first for the Joker series. The special self-winding rotor, designed to resemble the sun, adds a poetic touch to the watch’s mechanics. The skeletonized dial and sapphire crystal caseback also result in a lighter watch, enhancing wearer comfort.

As Konstantin Chaykin looks at the prototype of the Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ on his wrist, he reflects on the transformation: “I was sure I was doing everything right, that the old fellow wouldn’t let me down. But to be honest, he surprised me. You have to make an effort to distinguish the structure of the original Joker in the Joker ‘Fiat Lux’ – it’s a completely different watch.”
