MB&F Perpetual Evo Icy Blue

MB&F’s imaginative creations have taken wearers on journeys to fantastical destinations, mapping uncharted territories of the mind, from celestial star-cruisers to the depths of the ocean with jellyfish-inspired designs. Maximilian Büsser’s Machines serve as the mechanical cartographers of this imaginative multiverse. The EVO line represents a significant evolution, notably marked by the release of the first LM Perpetual EVO pieces in 2020, transforming wearers into navigators of their active lifestyles, where their life becomes the map, and the watch an inseparable companion.

Originally launched in three limited editions in zirconium, followed by a titanium edition with a distinctive green CVD dial-plate, the LM Perpetual EVO now welcomes a new edition in 2024 featuring an icy blue dial-plate, replacing its green predecessor. The watch boasts a highly-resistant titanium case and all editions include a seamlessly integrated rubber strap for the most comfortable wearing experience of any MB&F Machine to date.

With a 44mm case in zirconium or titanium, modern metals surpassing the properties of stainless steel, the LM Perpetual EVO showcases a case profile emphasizing openness and extreme clarity. A specially developed monobloc shock-absorbing system called “FlexRing” enhances the robustness of this Machine, designed by Stephen McDonnell, featuring an award-winning perpetual calendar that replaces traditional constructions with an innovative mechanical processor.

While the LM Perpetual EVO has introduced various complications and horologically prestigious mechanisms, the Legacy Machine Perpetual has maintained its position at the pinnacle of MB&F watchmaking savoir-faire since its introduction in 2015.

The new EVO case design maintains the 44mm diameter from its 2015 iteration but adopts a no-bezel construction, with the domed sapphire crystal directly fused to the case. This design enhancement increases openness, highlighting the balance between legibility and the cinematic play of the engine components, including the iconic MB&F hovering balance wheel. The reconfiguration involved complex calculations for new geometries of the sapphire crystal to maintain structural strength while decreasing its height-to-diameter ratio, requiring a sophisticated thermal bonding system.

The circular pushers for adjusting the perpetual calendar have been transformed into double-sprung oblong actuators, enhancing tactile comfort and ease of adjustment. The LM Perpetual EVO achieves a water resistance rating of 80m with its screw-down crown, a crucial detail that disengages the crown from the winding mechanism, preventing the risk of manually over-winding the mainspring barrel.

Introducing the FlexRing, an annular dampener fitted between the case and movement, the LM Perpetual EVO provides shock protection along vertical and lateral axes, adding exceptional robustness to the perpetual calendar. This pragmatic and utilitarian function aligns with the classicism and elegance associated with high complications.

Stephen McDonnell’s revolutionary perpetual calendar redesign employs a “mechanical processor” with superimposed disks, ensuring each month has precisely the right number of days and eliminating the possibility of incorrect date changes. An inbuilt safety feature disconnects the quickset pushers during the date changeover, preventing potential damage to the movement.

In design, technique, and spirit, the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO represents an evolution of the wearer’s story with MB&F. It’s not just a watch for sports; it’s a watch for life.
