MING 29.01 DUBAI EDITION

To mark their initial participation in a significant industry event, Dubai Watch Week 2023, and in response to popular demand, the brand is pleased to introduce the 29.01 Dubai Edition—a special worldtimer crafted for their Arabic-speaking and reading collectors.

In the evolution of the worldtimer design, the brand has implemented several design and functional adjustments to distinguish this iteration of the 29.01. Notably, they have introduced a rose gold finish for their second-generation Schwarz-Etienne for MING ASE222 microrotor automatic, along with modifications to the city ring.

Responding to collector requests, additional cities have been incorporated into the dial, with both numbers and city names now displayed in Arabic. Additionally, a third ring has been added to differentiate cities that observe daylight savings time. An offset marker has also been introduced to indicate time in these zones when DST is active.

Adhering to the 29-series design principles, the watch embodies the concept of liquidity, characterized by organic forms and seamlessly flowing lines. The absence of a bezel is notable, as the top crystal seamlessly merges into the case body without steps, playing the role of a bezel. The dial mirrors this seamlessness, with cities, indices, and hands appearing to float at different levels over a 24-hour disc. Various brushed finishes distinguish day/night and different indication zones on the dial.

The dial is mounted on and rotates via a peripheral ball bearing track, creating a seamless appearance. Retaining their trademark inversion, the use of a sapphire upper dial, carrying the cities, and sapphire hands, both laser-etched and filled with HyCeram, ensures luminosity and night-time visibility.

With a 40mm case size, visually enlarged due to the absence of a bezel and a 34mm dial opening, the 29-series case maintains wearability with short lugs suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes.

Featuring a deep sapphire box on the front serving as both crystal and bezel, bonded seamlessly to the grade 5 titanium case body, the case embodies the second generation of the brand’s design language. The flying blade lugs, a key feature of the second-generation design language shared with the 27-series and 20-series, are polished and feature an interlocking groove that keys into the caseback. The caseback is secured with four Torx screws and presents a seamless appearance from the underside, with polished top and bottom finishes to the lugs contrasting with the matte texture of the case sides.

The second-generation movement, premiering in the original 29.01 Worldtimer, features a microrotor automatic with new bridge architecture for increased openness and transparency. The barrel is fully skeletonized for easier determination of the state of wind, and plates and bridges are coated with 5N rose gold with diamond-cut anglage. The rotor guard takes on a whimsical four-level ‘staircase’ design with anglage, and the rotor itself is slightly larger with a new organic shape for enhanced winding efficiency. A new mounting system and ceramic ball bearings improve winding efficiency, while the rotor remains made of tungsten for density.
