Moritz Grossmann Tefnut Silver-Plated by Friction

Traditional craftsmanship at its finest: the new TEFNUT silver-plated by friction.

The TEFNUT model embodies the timeless virtues associated with the Moritz Grossmann manufacture: a minimalist design that exudes subtle elegance, crafted meticulously with high-quality materials by skilled artisans. Every minuscule detail is flawlessly executed. The TEFNUT line has received a remarkable transformation, featuring a hand-silverplated dial that emanates a confident and sophisticated presence.

All watches produced by Moritz Grossmann in Glashütte share a common trait – they captivate from every angle. Whether one gazes at the watch’s “face,” the dial with its hands, or examines the intricate movement, the exceptional quality standards of this German watch brand and its penchant for distinctive details are evident throughout.

The TEFNUT silver-plated by friction, now the new flagship model for the Tefnut line, reinforces this tradition. Its dial possesses a distinctive shimmer, characterized by a simple, minimalist style with a touch of refinement.

Grain or silver-plating by friction: traditional craftsmanship on the dial

The dial’s surface exhibits a velvety, matte texture, achieved using a 19th-century technique passed down through generations known as grain or silver-plating by friction. Skilled artisans at the Moritz Grossmann workshops carry out this process by hand. A unique paste, comprising silver powder, salt, cream of tartar, and water, is meticulously applied using a delicate brush, worked until the surface displays a fine grain, and then perfected with a meticulous final polish. Each step demands sensitivity and experience, and only a few experts have mastered this traditional technique. However, the end result justifies the time invested: the interplay of light and shadow, gloss and matte, creates a unique effect that contributes to the distinctive charm of the TEFNUT.

The dial: contrasting colors and delicate lines

The contrast of black elements highlights the dial’s surface: all numerals, lettering, minute scale, and the historical logo “M. Grossmann,” dating back to 1875, are rendered in black lacquer. The dial is then fired in a kiln, preventing the lacquered surfaces from being silver-plated.

The graceful curvature of the numerals complements the brown-violet annealed hands, crafted by hand through a series of intricate steps. Their gently rounded lines and delicate tips capture the attention of any observer.

The case: a size for every wrist

The new TEFNUT silver-plated by friction boasts a 39-millimeter diameter, making it the perfect companion for any wrist. The case is available in exquisite rose gold or expressive stainless steel, featuring a classic, slimline silhouette.

The flat design enhances comfort and ensures an elegant appearance. Distinctive elements include a crown adorned with crosswise grooves, slim lugs, and a strap made from hand-sewn alligator leather. The rose gold case is paired with brown alligator leather, while the stainless steel version comes with a black alligator leather strap.

The hand-wound calibre 102.1: a mechanism of impeccable aesthetics

The renowned calibre 102.1, measuring just four millimeters in height and 26 millimeters in diameter, graces the interior of the TEFNUT silver-plated by hand, adding elegance to the case. Its meticulously designed architecture incorporates all the hallmark features of a Grossmann caliber.

The hand-wound movement includes a traditional pillar construction comprising a main plate and a 3/5 plate. Noteworthy elements encompass a stepped balance cock with a Grossmann micrometer screw and raised chatons.

Both the construction and intricate finishing epitomize the Glashütte watch manufacture: the plates bear the characteristic Glashütte ribbing, and the brand name is hand-engraved in block capitals. The balance cock is also adorned with a delicate floral pattern, meticulously engraved by hand. Another distinctive feature is the white sapphires serving as jewels, set in gold chatons and secured by brown-violet screws.
