Olympics 2024: Omega house welcomes renowned explorers

Celebrating the “Spirit of Pioneers” at OMEGA House Paris

OMEGA gathered some of the world’s most renowned explorers at OMEGA House Paris to celebrate the “Spirit of Pioneers.” This inspiring event, held on Saturday, featured guests of honor including astronauts Jean-François Clervoy and Katya Echazarreta, ocean explorer Victor Vescovo, and aerospace engineer Allan Petre.

OMEGA House: A Hub of Exploration and Celebration

OMEGA House, the Swiss brand’s exclusive venue for the duration of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, served as the backdrop for this remarkable event. As Official Timekeeper of the Games, OMEGA took the opportunity to highlight its deep-rooted passion for exploration, a legacy that includes participation in all six moon landings, North Pole expeditions, and a world record dive to the deepest place on Earth.

A Tribute to Human Endeavor

OMEGA President and CEO, Raynald Aeschlimann, spoke at the event, emphasizing the connection between the spirit of the Olympics and the spirit of exploration. “The Olympic and Paralympic Games show us the incredible capacity of the human mind and body. Likewise, we have seen this same remarkable spirit in so many explorers who have worn OMEGA watches. This is an essential part of who we are as a brand, so it’s wonderful to have an occasion like this, where amazing stories can be shared, directly from those who experienced them.”

Insights from Legendary Explorers

The daytime event featured a rousing panel discussion where each explorer shared insights into their lives and achievements:

  • Jean-François Clervoy: A French engineer and astronaut, veteran of three space missions, including two aboard the Space Shuttle. He was also a key figure in the creation of the OMEGA Speedmaster X-33.
  • Victor Vescovo: Leader of the “Five Deeps Expedition” and OMEGA ambassador, Vescovo completed the first manned descent to the deepest points in each of the world’s five oceans, including the record-setting 10,925m dive to the Challenger Deep with OMEGA’s “Ultra Deep” timepiece.
  • Katya Echazarreta: The first Mexican-born woman in space, whose background as an electrical engineer and science communicator enabled her to participate in the Space for Humanity’s Citizen Astronaut Program in 2022.
  • Allan Petre: A French aerospace engineer based at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who represents the next generation of astronauts.

A Touch of Pioneering Inspiration

The four guests provided pioneering inspiration to OMEGA House, discussing topics ranging from their favorite views and scariest moments to their OMEGA watches and the future of exploration.
