LIGHT YET STRONG: The Seamaster Planet Ocean Dark Grey is crafted in state-of-the-art ceramic
OMEGA’s Seamaster collection boasts a rich history of pioneering technology and the introduction of innovative materials. This year, this tradition of technical excellence continues with the launch of the new Planet Ocean Dark Grey, a striking timepiece meticulously crafted from silicon nitride ceramic [Si3N4].
For the first time, OMEGA has incorporated silicon nitride on a significant scale in a timepiece, resulting in a rugged watch primed for adventures, all while maintaining a lightweight profile.
The inherent lightness of silicon nitride ceramic provides wearers with an added level of comfort on the wrist, while its robust properties ensure the watch’s durability during rigorous explorations. In terms of design, this dark grey material has been skillfully employed for the 45.5 mm case, the patented NAIAD LOCK caseback, and the bezel ring.
Elsewhere, OMEGA has cleverly employed contrasting Grade 5 titanium for the bezel body, strap folding clasp, and the sand-blasted dial, complemented by anthracite hands and indexes. This specific grade of titanium, well-regarded in the aerospace industry, enhances the watch’s durability without compromising its weight.
Staying true to the theme, the movement also adheres to a dark aesthetic. The OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8906 in Grade 5 Titanium is an exceptionally lightweight creation that features a GMT function, ensuring impeccable precision and performance. It is elegantly displayed beneath a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The entire watch maintains its water-resistant capabilities, extending to an impressive 600 meters, in harmony with Seamaster’s renowned ocean technology.
