OMEGA’s latest Seamaster salutes Emirates Team New Zealand
In anticipation of the fast-approaching 2024 America’s Cup event in Barcelona, OMEGA has created a special tribute to the defending champions, Emirates Team New Zealand, in the form of their Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black ETNZ Edition. This unique timepiece was unveiled during a special OMEGA event at the preliminary Regatta in Vilanova.
In just one year, the crew from Auckland will be giving their all to maintain possession of the world’s oldest sporting trophy. OMEGA drew design inspiration from the sail of the ETNZ logo to craft this distinctive collectible for the America’s Cup.
Mr. Raynald Aeschlimann, OMEGA’s President and CEO, expressed his admiration for the watch and the crew that served as its inspiration. He remarked, “Similar to our friends from Emirates Team New Zealand, time passes swiftly, and now is the perfect moment to reveal our true colors. Our race-ready watch not only performs superbly but also pays a fitting tribute to the talented crew and their nation.”
The 45.5 mm Seamaster Planet Ocean seamlessly blends the deepest black with the vibrant turquoise of the Emirates Team New Zealand logo.
The watch features a black ceramic case with a unidirectional bezel in brushed black ceramic, adorned with a white enamel diving scale and a triangle-framed dot at 12 o’clock, which includes white Super-LumiNova for a green glow in the dark.
On the matte ceramic dial, OMEGA incorporated a nod to pre-race protocol with a COUNTDOWN INDICATOR at 3 o’clock, complete with a flagged START. The indicator’s hand and subdial ring are colored in Emirates Team New Zealand’s signature turquoise, along with the minute track, number 12, and the central seconds chronograph hand, which features an America’s Cup trophy counterweight. This turquoise hue extends to the rings of the brushed black ceramic pushers, the “He” on the helium escape valve, and the OMEGA logo on the crown.
As a gesture of appreciation for the kiwi crew, the NAIAD LOCK caseback features the Emirates Team New Zealand logo with a turquoise fern and white lettering. Powering the watch is OMEGA’s Master Chronometer Calibre 9900.
The watch is presented on a black and turquoise structured rubber strap with turquoise stitching and a black ceramic clasp. OMEGA also offers three alternative looks with an additional rubber strap and two NATO straps, all in complementary colors.
For safekeeping on land, a special presentation box inspired by the Emirates Team New Zealand logo is included.
In addition to their exceptional tribute watches, OMEGA has been a dedicated supporter of Emirates Team New Zealand since 1995 and will once again serve as the Official Timekeeper for the 37th edition of this prestigious regatta. This marks OMEGA’s fourth time in this role, having previously timed the America’s Cup in 2000, 2003, and 2021.
