Patek Philippe’s Grande Sonnerie Fetches 15.7 Million Swiss Francs at Only Watch 2024 Charity Auction
At the prestigious Only Watch 2024 charity auction, held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Christie’s in Geneva, the Grande Sonnerie Reference 6301A-010 in steel stole the spotlight, commanding a staggering sum of 15.7 million Swiss francs. Patek Philippe is honored to contribute this significant amount to the Monaco Association against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies AMM), supporting the advancement of treatments for degenerative neuromuscular diseases.
Since its inception in 2005, Patek Philippe has been an unwavering advocate for the Only Watch charity auction, consistently donating a special, one-of-a-kind version of one of its timepieces, typically a Grand Complication.
For the milestone tenth edition of Only Watch, Patek Philippe chose to showcase its expertise in the realm of chiming watches by reimagining the Grande Sonnerie Reference 6301, an exceptional timepiece introduced in 2020. This unique piece crafted for the 2024 auction marks the debut of Reference 6301 in steel, a material seldom used for Patek Philippe Grand Complications. Its dial is adorned with a captivating combination of rare handcrafts: a gold dial plate meticulously hand-guilloched in a swirling pattern, illuminated by layers of translucent blue-green Grand Feu enamel, using the traditional technique of flinqué enameling. Twelve baguette-cut diamond hour markers further enhance the dial’s elegance.
The polished steel case features a distinctive concave bezel and satin-brushed flanks. Powering the watch is the caliber GS 36-750 PS IRM manually-wound movement, comprising an impressive 703 parts. Noteworthy features include three classic gongs, two patents related to the striking mechanism, and a patented jumping small seconds at 6 o’clock.
