Rado Returns as Official Sponsor and Timekeeper of the Mubadala Citi DC Open
Rado, the Swiss watchmaker renowned for its innovative use of materials, is continuing its longstanding association with tennis by renewing its partnership with the Mubadala Citi DC Open. Scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 4 at Washington, DC’s Rock Creek Park Tennis Center, this partnership sees Rado serving once again as both the Official Sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the prestigious tournament.
About the Mubadala Citi DC Open
The Mubadala Citi DC Open is the world’s first and only combined ATP & WTA 500 event. Established in 1969, the tournament was inspired by Arthur Ashe’s vision of holding a professional tennis event in a public park, making it accessible to all. Over the years, it has grown to become the fifth-largest pro tennis event in the U.S. and holds the distinction of being the longest-running professional tournament at the same venue in the country. Located in the heart of Washington, DC, the tournament attracts top tennis players, as well as leading figures from government, business, diplomacy, and entertainment.
Mark Ein, Chairman of the Mubadala Citi DC Open, expressed his enthusiasm for the renewed partnership, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome Rado back as our Official Timekeeper. Rado shares our values and commitment to world-class excellence, and we know that fans will enjoy discovering their timepieces, including the high-tech ceramic Captain Cook line, at the tournament this summer.”
Rado’s Enduring Tennis Legacy
Adrian Bosshard, CEO of Rado, emphasizes the synergy between the brand and the sport: “Rado and tennis share essential values, such as relentless determination and a commitment to pushing boundaries. From our first contact with the Mubadala Citi DC Open, we recognized partners dedicated to staging a world-class competition and supporting a worthy foundation. We eagerly anticipate the first serve of the season.”
Rado’s involvement in tennis dates back to 1985 with its debut as Title Sponsor at the Swiss Open Gstaad, Switzerland’s oldest tennis tournament. The brand returned to the legendary courts in the Bernese Oberland in 2022 and has since become an Official Timekeeper at various ATP Tour events, including the Abierto Mexicano Acapulco, BMW Open in Munich, Open Parc Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in Lyon, Mubadala Citi DC Open, Erste Bank Open in Vienna, and Swiss Indoors in Basel.
Beyond Timekeeping: Rado’s Commitment to Young Talent
Rado’s dedication to tennis extends beyond timekeeping. Through its YoungStar program, the brand supports some of the sport’s most promising talents, fostering their journey towards excellence. Among these rising stars is American tennis player J.J. Wolf. An all-around athlete who previously played soccer, basketball, and baseball, Wolf chose to pursue a career in professional tennis in 2019. With his impressive potential and versatility, he is a player to watch in the coming years.
As Rado continues its collaboration with the Mubadala Citi DC Open, it remains a vital part of the tournament’s success story, reflecting its enduring commitment to excellence in both timekeeping and tennis.
