Seiko Presage and Porter Classic Collaboration Celebrates Japanese Craftsmanship

Seiko has expanded its Presage Craftsmanship Series with a new enamel-dialed timepiece created in collaboration with Porter Classic, a Japanese fashion brand renowned for blending traditional craft techniques with modern design. Founded in 2007 by Katsuyuki Yoshida and his son, Leo Yoshida, Porter Classic is known for producing high-quality items made in Japan, intended to be cherished by generations.

This collaboration between Seiko and Porter Classic pays tribute to Seiko’s early 20th-century designs, particularly the Laurel, Japan’s first wristwatch, created in 1913. The new watch merges traditional Japanese artistry with Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking expertise, honoring the craftsmanship that has defined both brands.

A Tribute to the Laurel and Japanese Craftsmanship

Inspired by the Laurel, the new Presage model features a dial made from black enamel, meticulously crafted by master enamel artisan Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team. The watch’s proportions, round case shape, and enamel dial reflect the elegance of early 20th-century pocket watches. The dial is complemented by delicate, Laurel-inspired hour, minute, and 24-hour hands, while Arabic numerals are faithfully reproduced in their original font.

A 24-hour sub-dial occupies the six o’clock position, mirroring the layout of the original Laurel’s seconds hand. The case’s moveable rounded lugs are reminiscent of pocket watch bows, further enhancing the watch’s vintage character. The case back is engraved with the silhouette of Katsuyuki Yoshida and the watch’s serial number, denoting its limited-edition status.

Craftsmanship Meets Functionality

Powered by the Caliber 6R5H automatic movement with manual winding capability, the watch offers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (6 beats per second) and contains 24 jewels. Its precision ranges from +25 to -15 seconds per day, ensuring reliable timekeeping.

The stainless steel case, treated with a super hard coating, measures 35.0mm in diameter and 12.3mm in thickness, with a lug-to-lug distance of 37.0mm. It features a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface. The watch is water-resistant to 5 bar and offers magnetic resistance up to 4,800 A/m, providing durability alongside its refined aesthetics.

Cordovan Leather Straps and Presentation Box

This limited-edition model is presented on a black cordovan pull-through strap, specially developed for this collaboration. An additional brown strap is included, offering versatility. The straps are designed to fit the narrow 11mm lugs but widen beneath the case for added comfort. With additional holes, the straps allow for a broader range of length adjustments, enhancing their functionality.

The watch is delivered in a Jubako-style presentation box, echoing Porter Classic’s design philosophy. The tiered, stacking box is finished in a chic black color and is spacious enough to store both the watch and the additional strap, adding to the overall experience of luxury and craftsmanship.
