In celebration of the debut of the new E8 series Tsubasa on the Yamagata Shinkansen, a commemorative wristwatch has been released. This timepiece draws inspiration from the front view of the E8 series train and features a design that integrates traditional elements with the new Shinkansen’s modern color scheme. The watch’s face is styled with a gradient of “Oshidori Purple” and “Zao Bianco,” the primary colors of the E8 series, along with a band of “Safflower Yellow,” representing the train’s exterior.
The watch, crafted by Seiko, is a chronograph model equipped with a stopwatch function and a calendar. It was made available for purchase on August 2, 2024, through the PREMICO online shop. This exclusive item is limited to 5,000 units, each individually numbered on the case back.
The dial of the watch is a standout feature, designed to evoke the image of the E8 series as seen from the front. It includes a stopwatch, 24-hour hand, and a calendar function. The 8 o’clock index is particularly notable, featuring a gold-colored Tsubasa mark, inspired by the letter “E.” Additionally, the hour and minute hands, along with the dot markers, are coated with Lumibrite, a luminous paint, ensuring visibility in the dark.
The back of the watch is engraved with the E8 series logo and the edition number, making each piece unique. This collector’s item is presented in a special wooden box that mirrors the interior design of the E8 series. The box features a logo in foil embossing and includes a lining made of Mikami Japanese paper, a specialty of Yamagata. The inside of the lid is adorned with a photograph of the E8 series, enhancing the overall presentation.
