SevenFriday x Papa Don’t Preach

Witness the colorful collaboration of couture and horology between PAPA DON’T PREACH and SEVENFRIDAY

The partnership between SEVENFRIDAY and PAPA DON’T PREACH is a fusion of both their commonalities and distinctions. One prominent contrast lies in their respective heritages—Switzerland and India, two countries with divergent approaches to work, style, and trends. Despite potential hurdles arising from disparities between the watch and fashion industries, the collaboration flourished due to the shared mission and values of the two brands. The result is a product that seamlessly embodies both SEVENFRIDAY and PAPA DON’T PREACH.

Central to this collaboration is a collection of watches that serve as works of art. The watches retain the distinct characteristics of SEVENFRIDAY, including the evolution of their signature ‘squircle’ case, familiar hands and dial construction, and the integration of an NFC chip. However, the design is distinctly PAPA DON’T PREACH. Conceived by an all-women team, the dial features a fierce panther intricately woven into vibrant patterns and maximalist, mythical flowers that even a flora enthusiast wouldn’t readily recognize. This floral element symbolizes the collaboration and exists solely in the fantasy world of SEVENFRIDAY X PAPA DON’T PREACH. To enhance the intricate designs, the dial incorporates raised elements, imparting a 3D effect that adds depth and dimension to Shubhika’s creations.

In addition to the watches, the Mumbai-based team contributed to the collaboration by designing a canvas tote and unique display materials. They also gave the SEVENFRIDAY wooden crate a vivid pink makeover, bearing the phrase “like a ribbon around a bomb.” The overall result is a meeting of elegance and sensitivity with a fiery and unpredictable energy. Drawing inspiration from Andre Breton’s description of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, this contrasting collaboration is aptly summarized as a harmonious blend of diverse elements.

When I first met Dan, the founder of SEVENFRIDAY, four years ago at a social event; we were excited to discuss our respective brands and found that our ideologies matched. What came next was a collaboration four years in the making; with us taking calls and meetings across time zones and over the course of the pandemic. We knew no matter how long it took, we would be creating works of art and I’m extremely proud of how it turned out. These watches mark an exhilarating new phase in our journey, enabling our customers to embrace a fragment of the Papaverse on their wrists.” – Shubhika Sharma, Founder & CEO of Papa Don’t Preach

Both brands are reveling in a series of debut moments. PAPA DON’T PREACH makes a noteworthy entrance into its accessories collection with the launch of its first-ever watch, while SEVENFRIDAY embraces a fresh aesthetic that seamlessly melds the realms of fashion and horology.

These watches, namely the C1/01 and C2/01, mark the initiation of the newly introduced C-series. Representing the thinnest and smallest watches ever produced by SEVENFRIDAY, this series deviates from the brand’s typical models by incorporating a quartz movement. A departure from tradition is also evident in the subtle modification of the case shape, which now boasts a softer and more rounded ‘squircle.’

The C1/01 and C2/01 exhibit a lacquered crown shaped like a heart—a distinctive design signature from PAPA DON’T PREACH. The collaboration branding is elegantly featured on the dial ring and along the side of the case. Offered in both golden and silver hues, these models are accompanied by a metal bracelet, completing the innovative and celebratory fusion of fashion and horological craftsmanship.
