Swatch has unveiled the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Blue Lagoon (SO35L400), a fresh addition to its collaboration with Blancpain. This model reimagines Blancpain’s iconic Fifty Fathoms through Swatch’s lens, blending mechanical innovation, vibrant design, and a commitment to sustainability.
A Design That Captures Oceanic Beauty
The Blue Lagoon’s design draws inspiration from the vibrant colors of the Tambja Mullineri nudibranch, a sea creature known for its striking turquoise and blue hues. Its turquoise-blue Bioceramic case is paired with a dark blue unidirectional bezel, which features a glossy black resin insert illuminated with Grade A Super-LumiNova®. Together, these elements create a dynamic visual contrast that enhances the watch’s ocean-inspired theme.
The sun-brushed dial radiates from the center, evoking sunlight filtering through water. Applied luminescent markers and bold white-and-blue hands ensure excellent visibility in low-light conditions, while a date window positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock adds practical utility.
Mechanical Innovation with SISTEM51
Inside the Blue Lagoon beats Swatch’s SISTEM51 movement, a Swiss-made automatic mechanism with just 51 parts and a single central screw. The movement offers an impressive 90-hour power reserve and features a Nivachron™ hairspring for anti-magnetic precision.
Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement is adorned with a vibrant illustration of the Tambja Mullineri, adding a touch of storytelling. Inspirational phrases such as “PASSION FOR DIVING” and “PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE” encircle the caseback, reinforcing the watch’s connection to the ocean and its preservation.
Built for Exploration
With 91 meters (50 fathoms) of water resistance, the Blue Lagoon is equipped for underwater adventures. The two-piece NATO-style strap, crafted from recycled fishing nets, highlights Swatch’s focus on sustainability. The strap’s design, combined with a Bioceramic pin buckle, ensures comfort and durability.
Measuring 42.3mm in diameter and 14.4mm in thickness, the Blue Lagoon balances boldness with wearability, making it a versatile companion for both casual outings and aquatic excursions.
Honoring Blancpain’s Legacy
This collaboration pays homage to the Fifty Fathoms, the first modern dive watch created by Blancpain in 1953. Its innovative features set the standard for dive watches, and this Swatch iteration continues to celebrate that legacy while infusing a playful, accessible twist.
