Swatch Reaffirms Commitment as Main Partner of Locarno Film Festival

Swatch is set to amplify the vibrant atmosphere of the Locarno Film Festival’s 77th edition with exciting activities and a limited-edition watch. Celebrating its founding year in 1946, the Locarno Film Festival has grown into one of the world’s premier film events, bringing filmmakers and film enthusiasts together to honor the art of storytelling on the big screen. Swatch is proud to continue its role as the main partner of this esteemed festival, which will run from August 7 to 17, 2024.

Over the years, Swatch has actively participated in the Locarno Film Festival through various initiatives. From hosting Swatch Art Peace Hotel artists at the Filmmakers Academy to showcasing their work at BaseCamp with dedicated exhibitions, Swatch has played a pivotal role in supporting emerging film talent. This year, Swatch will once again award the Swatch First Feature Award, offering CHF 15,000 to a promising filmmaker.

Maintaining its tradition, Swatch has designed a special, limited-edition watch inspired by the festival’s colors. The LOCARNO77, the official watch of the 2024 edition, marks a first in the festival’s history with its distinctive square dial. This design pays homage to the celluloid film used in movies, adding a touch of nostalgia. The black strap, featuring contrasting double loops with the festival’s logo and the number 77, celebrates the festival’s legacy of showcasing avant-garde cinema. In a playful nod, the battery cover on the back of the watch features a leopard print in honor of the renowned Pardo d’Oro award.

During the festival, Swatch will welcome fans at the Swatch Studios, located near the Piazza Grande. Visitors can explore a street filled with unique shop facades, one resembling the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. Here, they can experience “Flower of Abundance,” a virtual artwork by Luo Bi, a digital artist and former Swatch Art Peace Hotel resident. Luo Bi’s work combines computer-generated animations with nature observations, creating unique virtual worlds that challenge viewers’ perspectives.

Swatch and the Locarno Film Festival share a passion for cinema and the arts. With many years of collaboration, Swatch is excited to contribute to the success of this year’s festival as the Main Partner for the second consecutive year, infusing the event with its unique energy. Join us in Locarno and let the magic of cinema unfold.
