Blancpain and Swatch’s collaborative venture introduces a new addition to the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection, expanding the original five watches inspired by Earth’s oceans. Joining the ranks of the ARCTIC OCEAN, PACIFIC OCEAN, ATLANTIC OCEAN, INDIAN OCEAN, and ANTARCTIC OCEAN, the latest model is christened OCEAN OF STORMS. While the Earth has five oceans, Swatch embraces the lunar inspiration of OCEAN OF STORMS, named after the lunar mare Oceanus Procellarum, the largest “sea” on the moon.
This non-limited model pays homage to the Black Moon, boasting a sleek black color. Despite its lunar inspiration, OCEAN OF STORMS shares identical dimensions and features with its oceanic counterparts. Powered by the Swatch mechanical movement, SISTEM51, renowned for being the sole fully automated mechanical movement with only 51 parts, including a central screw. Anti-magnetic and equipped with a Nivachron™ hairspring, it offers a 90-hour power reserve, revolutionizing the world of automatic watches since its debut in 2013.
OCEAN OF STORMS stands out with its own distinctive nudibranch, Okenia Luna, digitally printed on the rotor, symbolizing the lunar theme. The oscillating weight features a digital imprint of the full moon over the Ocean of Storms. Like its counterparts, OCEAN OF STORMS is water-resistant to 91 meters, paying homage to the historic nautical measure of depth, with Fifty Fathoms equating to 91 meters or 300 feet.
Constructed from Swatch’s patented Bioceramic material, comprising two-thirds ceramic and one-third biosourced material derived from castor oil, OCEAN OF STORMS reflects the commitment to ocean preservation. The NATO straps are crafted from recycled fishing nets, further emphasizing the dedication to sustainability.
The black sunray-finish dial and crown proudly display the shared Blancpain X Swatch logos, while the case bears the inscriptions “Swatch” and “Blancpain,” reminiscent of the original Fifty Fathoms watches. The back of the timepiece features inspirational inscriptions such as PASSION FOR DIVING, LICENCE TO EXPLORE, OCEAN BREATH, PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE, and IMMERSE YOURSELF.
