TAG Heuer introduces new Monaco timepieces with in-house calibre Heuer 02

Featuring the watchmaker’s Calibre Heuer 02 manufacture movement, these fresh additions to the TAG Heuer Monaco chronograph lineup draw inspiration from their early predecessors while setting the stage for the collection’s future.

La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland – October 8, 2020: TAG Heuer, the renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker, introduces three new Monaco models, continuing the narrative that began in 2019. This narrative commenced as the brand celebrated the 50th anniversary of this iconic timepiece with special editions. The impressive 2020 models are powered by the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 movement, showcasing a captivating design. All three models draw inspiration from the 1970s iterations, with two featuring a modernized metallic bracelet specially crafted for them. These bold style choices reaffirm that the Monaco is more than just a heritage piece.

Capturing the essence of the TAG Heuer Monaco:

The standout among these newcomers boasts a striking black dial with a sunray-brushed finish. Its counterpart features a lustrous blue sunray-brushed dial with a red, white, and blue color scheme reminiscent of the original 1969 Monaco timepieces. Both models come with stainless-steel bracelets and feature prominent square counters at 3 and 9 o’clock, along with a red central chronograph seconds hand. The black-dial model is also available with a black leather strap.

The Calibre Heuer 02 movement in these timepieces is visible through the watch’s sapphire crystal caseback, offering an impressive 80-hour power reserve. Expanding the Monaco range with this robust caliber demonstrates TAG Heuer’s fusion of iconic design and advanced in-house technology.

A fresh look courtesy of a redesigned steel bracelet:

“The bracelet is particularly important for any wristwatch – without a good bracelet, the timepiece lacks desirability. For the new Monaco timepieces, we have alluded to its brilliant past with a familiar design and colour while reinforcing that the collection is moving forward with innovative new technology,” says TAG Heuer’s Heritage Director, Catherine Eberlé-Devaux.

Remaining true to the original design, the bracelet widens at the lugs to support the weight of the watch head and tapers for improved comfort around the wrist. Horizontal bars are connected by smaller horizontal links, and a butterfly clasp adds a touch of haute horlogerie. The clasp proudly features the TAG Heuer shield, symbolizing the Monaco’s place in TAG Heuer’s core collection, beyond being a mere heritage piece.

After 50 years, the Monaco’s legacy continues through modern interpretations. With each new release, this iconic timepiece embodies TAG Heuer’s avant-garde watchmaking spirit, solidifying its status as one of the watch industry’s most remarkable creations. Coinciding with the brand’s 160th anniversary, the launch of these luxurious Monaco novelties signifies that TAG Heuer is already scripting the next chapter in its history while propelling the Monaco into the future.
