Fanson Lam at Vacheron Constantin Ocean Terminal Flagship Boutique

Vacheron Constantin proudly presents its second bespoke event window in Hong Kong, showcasing the artistic brilliance of Hong Kong-based mixed-media sculptor, Fanson Lam. This immersive collaboration aims to capture the essence of time’s vibrant movement, embodying the interplay of light and shadow intricately concealed within the Maison’s timepieces.

Established in 1755, Vacheron Constantin boasts a rich heritage, continuously producing exceptional timepieces for nearly 270 years. The Maison’s commitment to creation, enhancement, and reinvention remains unwavering. To commemorate its ceaseless pursuit of excellence, innovation, and artistry, Vacheron Constantin inaugurates the second bespoke event window at its Ocean Terminal Flagship Boutique on November 17, 2023, in partnership with acclaimed sculptor Fanson Lam. The bespoke art installation, titled “Eternal Illumination: A Journey Through Time,” draws inspiration from Vacheron Constantin’s watchmaking virtuosity, the sundial, and the ancient wisdom of the 24 Solar Terms on a Chinese lunar calendar.

François Constantin’s timeless words, spoken on July 5, 1819 – “Do better if possible, and that is always possible” – encapsulate the spirit of Vacheron Constantin. Through centuries, the Maison has seamlessly woven tradition with innovation, accumulating the technical, aesthetic, artistic, and human capital that shapes its unique vision of time. Vacheron Constantin’s dedication to art and culture is evident in its partnerships with prestigious institutions such as the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Abbey Road Studios.

“Eternal Illumination: A Journey Through Time,” the bespoke artistic collaboration with Fanson Lam, draws inspiration from the wisdom of the 24 Solar Terms. This artwork celebrates the timeless concept of the sundial, symbolizing humanity’s relentless pursuit of measuring time through the dance of sunlight. The installation serves as a testament to Vacheron Constantin’s skill, finesse, and unwavering dedication to craftsmanship, heritage, and innovation.

Fanson Lam, a self-taught mixed-media sculptor from Hong Kong, brings his decade-long artistic journey to life. With a solid foundation in visual arts from Hong Kong Baptist University, Fanson has dedicated himself to the pursuit of creativity and sculptural expression. His mastery of metal casting, under the guidance of Master Liu Wing Sheung, adds a unique dimension to his artistic repertoire.

The exhibition, “Eternal Illumination: A Journey Through Time,” will be on display from November 17, 2023, to March 31, 2024, at the Vacheron Constantin Ocean Terminal Flagship Boutique in Hong Kong. The installation’s artistic concept seamlessly blends the time-honored craft of Lost Wax Casting with relief sculpting, creating a mesmerizing journey through the corridors of time. The play of light and shadow, symbolizing the ever-changing nature of time, adds depth and dimension to this immersive experience.

The artistic expression within the installation revolves around the ancient craft of Lost Wax Casting, a technique with a history spanning thousands of years. The interplay of light and shadow breathes life into “Eternal Illumination,” symbolizing the ever-changing nature of time, much like the shifting rays of the sun. The installation features 24 flower relief sculptures, each intricately crafted with floral motifs inspired by the profound essence of the 24 Solar Terms. Concealed lighting effects delicately illuminate one flower sculpture at a time, casting ethereal shadows that gracefully shift, mirroring the dynamic nature of time.

In this floral sanctuary, every shadow is unique, echoing the one-of-a-kind craftsmanship and timeless ethos of Vacheron Constantin—an eternal brilliance that illuminates the world for all to behold.
