“Elements of Time” : An interactive installation in collaboration with Singapore industrial artist, Olivia Lee.
Vacheron Constantin has partnered with Singaporean industrial designer Olivia Lee to create an engaging installation in celebration of LESS’ENTIAL at the Maison’s Singapore Marina Bay Sands Boutique. The interactive exhibit, titled “Elements of Time,” is currently on display at the Vacheron Constantin Marina Bay Sands Boutique in Singapore.
Aligned with Vacheron Constantin’s annual thematic focus on Less’ential, “Elements of Time” comprises a collection of interactive sculptures that delve into the subjective and sensorial aspects of time, symbolizing cadence, flow, and geometry. The installation’s vibrant colors stand out against the natural hues of the boutique, inviting visitors to engage and explore the concept of time. Complementing the installation are static sculptures depicting sand falling, capturing moments frozen in time.
Gaël Porte, Vacheron Constantin Managing Director, SEAO, expresses the intention behind “Elements of Time”: “Elements of Time is a delicate concept often gone unnoticed in the modern-day urban lifestyle. We are excited for clients to experience the excellence of Vacheron Constantin timepieces and immerse in the installation which heightens one’s sense of sight, sound, and touch, appreciating the passage of time.”
Vacheron Constantin’s timepieces embody the Less’ential philosophy, finding excellence in subtle details like a slender silhouette, clean lines, precision, and mechanical virtuosity. “Elements of Time” aims to echo this connection, emphasizing that simplicity is the essence of beauty and prompting contemplation and evolution of mechanisms.
Olivia Lee, the internationally acclaimed Singaporean industrial designer, collaborated with Vacheron Constantin on this visual installation. Known for her nuanced and narrative-driven approach, Lee brings agility and distinctiveness to her creations, seamlessly blending heritage, craft, and technology across various sectors.
Inspired by ancient timekeeping devices such as hourglasses, pendulums, and counterweights, Lee plays with viewers’ perceptions of time throughout the boutique using interactive sculptures, immersive sandscapes, and objet d’art that seem frozen in time.
The exhibition features three distinct artworks:
- Cascade of Time: A large-scale hourglass adorned with intricate brass details, highlighting the unpredictability and turbulence of time.
- Pattern of Time: A pendulum crafting delicate spiral patterns in sand, prompting contemplation of surrendering to the natural pace of time.
- Rhythm of Time: A percussive artifact marking subjective durations of time through sound, created by the accelerating and decelerating rush of falling beads.
