Zenith Defy Extreme Diver & Defy Revival A3648

Since its establishment in 1969, ZENITH’s DEFY line has stood as a beacon of unwavering reliability and durability. Evolving over the years, the DEFY has seen numerous iterations, each tailored with purpose-driven features and designs. From conquering towering peaks to navigating rugged landscapes, ZENITH now embarks on a journey to the ocean depths with the introduction of the new DEFY Extreme Diver, alongside a tribute to one of its most coveted vintage diver’s timepieces, the DEFY Revival A3648.

The DEFY Diver, tracing its roots back to 1969, was one of the earliest offerings in the DEFY wristwatch range. Retaining the collection’s distinctive angular case and dodecagonal bezel, ZENITH incorporated essential elements to craft a diver’s watch, including a rotatable bezel and vibrant color accents for enhanced readability underwater. Drawing inspiration from both historical DEFY diver’s references and the contemporary DEFY Extreme line, ZENITH unveils a modern diver’s watch that merges heritage with cutting-edge innovation. The result is a feature-rich timepiece engineered to withstand extreme conditions encountered in the most challenging environments, where ice, mist, and deep waters demand superior performance and clarity.

DEFY Extreme Diver

Inspired by a lineage of DEFY divers dating back to 1969, the DEFY Extreme Diver epitomizes modernity. Its intricate design enhances its ability to thrive in the depths, engineered to tackle extreme conditions where ice, water, and mist pose formidable challenges. Crafted from titanium, renowned for its strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to corrosion, the 42.5mm angular case boasts durability. Equipped with a helium escape valve for saturation diving, the case features a ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel with grooved edges for enhanced grip, even with gloves. The bezel, engraved and filled with Super-LumiNova, ensures effortless reading in low-light underwater conditions.

With a screw-down crown protected by titanium guards, the DEFY Extreme Diver offers a water resistance of 600 meters (60 ATM), a symbolic figure paying homage to the DEFY diver’s legacy. Meeting ISO 6425 requirements for professional diver’s watches, it delivers comprehensive functionality and robustness. The dial, adorned with geometric engraved stars, is available in black and blue variants, complemented by matching ceramic bezels. Oversized hands and applied hour markers, filled with “X1” grade Super-LumiNova in blue, green, and orange, ensure optimal legibility, with orange accents paying homage to historical DEFY models.

Powered by the El Primero 3620-SC automatic high-frequency manufacture caliber, the DEFY Extreme Diver boasts a 60-hour power reserve. The exhibition case back reveals the movement’s intricate workings, including a paramagnetic escapement with silicon components. Completing the ensemble is a titanium three-link bracelet and two additional straps, including one made from recycled fishing nets as part of ZENITH’s sustainability initiative.

The DEFY Extreme Diver, available with blue and black dials, is now offered at ZENITH boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide.

DEFY Revival A3648

The DEFY Revival A3648 draws inspiration from the iconic DEFY reference A3648, originally launched in 1969 as one of the earliest diver’s watches in the DEFY lineup. Retaining the angular stainless steel case and fourteen-sided bezel characteristic of the original, the DEFY Revival pays homage to its predecessor while embracing contemporary craftsmanship.

Featuring a 37mm stainless steel case with a unidirectional rotating bezel, the DEFY Revival exudes a vintage charm. The matte black dial, accented with orange hands and minute track, ensures optimal visibility, complemented by white Super-LumiNova hour markers. With a depth rating of 600 meters (60 ATM), the DEFY Revival maintains the legacy of its predecessor, offering robust performance in a compact form factor.

Powered by the Elite 670 automatic manufacture movement, the DEFY Revival boasts a power reserve of 50 hours. Paired with a five-link steel bracelet and folding buckle, reminiscent of the original Gay Frères bracelet, the DEFY Revival offers a seamless blend of heritage and modernity.
