Zenith has expanded its Defy Skyline collection with a striking new release exclusive to North and South America. The Zenith Defy Skyline Americas Edition, reference 49.9308.3620/56.l001, was unveiled at the SIAR México 2024 trade fair, and offers collectors a refined and durable timepiece that showcases Zenith’s innovation in both design and mechanics.

A Distinctive Use of Materials

The Defy Skyline Americas Edition is housed in a 41mm black ceramic case, designed to withstand the toughest environments while maintaining an ultra-lightweight and scratch-resistant profile. Ceramic, known for its durability, gives the watch a distinct edge over its predecessors. This model is differentiated by its mix of satin-brushed and polished finishes, a feature that enhances its aesthetic without sacrificing functionality.

Compared to the outgoing Defy Skyline models, this edition offers a more advanced material composition with its ceramic construction. The previous models, typically in stainless steel, provided excellent durability, but this ceramic version elevates the wearability by adding enhanced scratch resistance and a unique matte finish.

A Dial Inspired by the Stars

One of the defining features of this edition is the sunray-finished deep metallic green dial, which serves as the canvas for rose gold-toned stars. The engraving of these geometric star patterns is inspired by past Defy models and gives the watch a visually striking three-dimensional appearance.

Further differences with previous Defy Skyline models lie in the color palette and dial design. While earlier iterations of the Defy Skyline featured bolder, contrasting colorways, the Americas Edition opts for a more subtle yet visually captivating combination of metallic green and rose gold, emphasizing elegance and craftsmanship.

The hour and minute hands, along with the applied indexes, are coated in Super-LumiNova to ensure optimal readability in low-light conditions. A small 1/10th of a second sub-dial at 9 o’clock provides an additional layer of functionality without compromising the minimalist aesthetic.

Powered by the El Primero 3620 Automatic Movement

At the heart of the Zenith Defy Skyline Americas Edition is the El Primero 3620 automatic movement, which operates at a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5Hz). This ensures precision down to 1/10th of a second, making it a reliable companion for timing accuracy. The skeletonized design of the movement is visible both through the dial and the exhibition case back, which showcases the 22k gold oscillating rotor.

With a 60-hour power reserve, this movement offers substantial autonomy, ensuring reliability even through prolonged periods of non-wear. This represents a step forward from the standard Defy Skyline models, which share the same movement but lack the exclusive design elements and ceramic construction found in this Americas edition.

Versatility with Interchangeable Straps

Zenith has equipped this model with two strap options to maximize versatility. The watch comes fitted with a black ceramic bracelet but also includes an interchangeable dark green rubber strap. The starry motif on the rubber strap mirrors the dial’s design, creating a cohesive aesthetic throughout the timepiece.

This interchangeable strap system is a notable improvement over previous Defy Skyline models, which were more limited in customization options.

The Zenith Defy Skyline Americas Edition is limited to 100 pieces, underscoring its exclusivity.
